Aargh.... This means I have to make another update for the European versions...
Not only that, but the US version can handle the 1024x768 .dds files I've made(which is somewhat out of standard .dds size), whereas the UK version evidentely can't.
Oh - I'm sooo glad they fixed something that wasn't broke..... :nono:
And why have language folders in there at all? :(
OK - thanks for your help though. :) - I'll look into it. But it may take some time to change the installer script.
What resolution are you playing at btw, and do you have an LCD monitor or CRT?
I have a 20" LCD (digital DVI connection) and have tried 800x600, 1024x768,1280x1024 and 1600x1200, and the Loading screens have looked fine here. But as mentioned, the US version is probably better and can handle the screens just fine. This is not the only case where that's true.
Oh - could you also tell me a little about your system; what graphics card you have, which drivers, what operating system, and what DirectX version?

This of course is all a result of ION Storm's ultimate goal, which was to prevent people with different language versions from updating their textures!
No problem, I don't mind if it takes a while either, I'm just grateful that you're recognising these minor problems in the first place.
DX:IW resolution is 1024x768 (just tried putting it at 640x480 and 1280x1024 and made no difference though), playing on a 19" CRT monitor
System:
128mb ATI Radeon 9800
Catalyst 5.13 drivers (very latest, just installed over 5.12's and the screens appear the same with both versions)
WinXP Professional
DirectX 9.0c

OK - thanks for the info. There is a slight possibility that there is a difference between using an LCD and a CRT display when it comes to the stretching - I honestly don't know enough about how that would work. It could even be something to do with how your graphics card handles DirectDraw surfaces though. In that case, even american version users will experience the same stretching if they have an ATI card (just thinking out loud here...). I'm leaning to the explanation that it's the European game versions which are at fault though.
I guess I'm going to try and track down a UK version of the game(should have done so ages ago), just to make sure everything works before I upload a new version.
-All in all, if you're reading this and have one of the European game versions, I would advice you to not install the "Loading images" option, until I've sorted this out and uploaded a new installer version. The new Loading screens were one of the big "selling points" of this new texture pack version, but still it's better if you don't install them for now, because I'm not sure if the original Loading images are backed up properly if you do.
None of this is (most likely) applicable to you if you have the US (american) version of the game.

Bugger. A pity, as I just gave a UK version away to a charity shop last week.
It's currently in '3 for £20' offers here, though, so if you want I could fire one over to you - it'd be after Christmas, of course.
John P. on 23/12/2005 at 17:17
Thanks for the offer, but it seems I'll be able to get it for a little less than £10' here from a webshop.
Hah - I went to the nearby mall today, to see if any of the stores there had it. Two of them did - - - and wanted £33' for it (translated the prices here)! Yeah, right... But I think I'll be able to order it cheap online anyway.

Wootcha, thanks John! :D

Thanks to help from 'trevor the sheep' and a German fellow who e-mailed me, I have now uploaded a new version where I have fixed the problem with the Loading screens not being displayed on European game versions. In addition I have fixed the aspect ratio of the screens, so they'll look like they're supposed to on European game versions and for people using CRT monitors (as opposed to LCD monitors). I have also added a couple of textures and updated a few others.
I did order the UK version of DX:IW from Play.com, but they still haven't got it in stock(...), so the help I got from people who have European versions was invaluable.

My first post here at TTLG
John, I'm in awe when I look at your work with the textures (Thief and DX). Tremendous stuff!! I was trying to download the pack but I don't know if the file is in such demand because it took me ages to get the thing to download, and when it finally started it was so slow it went nowhere. I will have to try again at a later date. A Big thanks though.
I got it to download eventually. Must've been a bottleneck when I tried the first time. Will be installing the game again and using your textures. Can't wait to spot the differences. Cheers.

Hey John, is it possible to create different colors for eyes and hair for Alex into the Texture Pack, like in an "Options" menu, or would that be too difficult &/or time consuming?
John P. on 8/2/2006 at 11:11
It would be possible. I already have several versions of the faces - particularly for male Alex D - in there, but not for hair or eye color.
The different face choices have to do with beard, scars, biomodified eyes, and a different overall look between my latest versions and my older versions (there's also a 'funny' clown face version in there). For female Alex D, it's only with or without biomodified eyes, and one older face version.
I could in the same manner make more choices, like hair and eye color. I just feel that I'm quite done with this game by now. It's all rather time consuming (both the texture and the installer making).
To see all the character choices in the Cumulative Texture Pack, you can (
