I didn't realize that cat foods had high sodium. Silly me, I thought that if salt was an issue, it would be mentioned in the nutrional analysis. I will have to check with the vet in a few weeks at their yearly exam. We feed urinary tract health food to ours because a couple of my boys are prone to UTI's.
I think my cats eat better than I do! :laff:

Joking apart, I did hear from a few sources that animal foods are produced to higher quality standards than the human stuff. Certainly, this is the first animal food scare I can remember in years, whereas human food scares are somewhat more regular.
I'd quite like a pet myself, but I just can't justify spending all that money on an animal when millions of humans are dying from hunger and malnutrition around the world.

Why don't you compromise and get yourself a pet starving Sudanese child?

Ah, they're a little hard to find in pet shops here. The flow of infants from the third world has been curtailed somewhat since slavery was abolished.

You obviously do not live in Arkansas.

That is admirable, but my view is a bit different...no surprise. I'd like to help starving people, but millions of animals are being euthanized in a large part because of irresponsible people who don't take proper care of them and who allow them to breed unchecked.
Unless you are an active breeder, spay or neuter your pets!! That bears repeating. Spay or neuter your pets!! Please. :grr:

I'm firmly in favour of people neutering their pets, but in all honesty, euthanising animals will save the lives of more animals in the long run. It isn't carrots that dogs and cats eat ;)

How will euthanasia save more lives than spay/neutering? Both equally prevent offspring.

I believe StD was refering to the various wild life killed by free roaming dogs & cats...birds, mice, snakes, squirrels, lizards, frogs...all those lovely gifts kitty brings home. If you view it that way, then yes, killing one predator will save many lives of prey animals. However, I prefer to keep my bunch strictly indoors, so they have little chance to hunt anything but spiders & tiny flying things.
