It's not because something is optional that it's not part of the core gameplay intended by the developer.
And I very much doubt that you can finish the game without going into 3rd person or triggering a QTE, but time will tell.

So you can stay in 1st person and there are lean buttons? You can carry out a silent take down by walking up behind someone and executing a well-timed strike with a melee weapon? The rooms where a large fight is about to go down won't be littered with tell-tale waste height objects which could be used for cover?

just look at the previews: crates of the indestructible kind
and 3rd person is being triggered when you use a ladder - the single most annoying thing in the riddick games - maybe you can finish the game without using any ladders at all.
