Alright, I had this problem yesterday, but I fixed it by running the game in 640 x 480 screen resolution. Now, it has the same black screen.
The audio still runs and you can hear the audio for the buttons if you move the mouse. The only thing is that the screen is completely black.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. - I put the game on my Vista laptop.

Processor affinity?

Are you running any mods or tweaks (widescreen mod, ddfix)? If so, which ones?
Kolya on 26/3/2009 at 19:17
System specs and what have you tried so far.
Detro Metro on 27/3/2009 at 02:56
It's a Acer Aspire 6930 laptop.
Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5800 @ 2.00 Ghz
(2.0 Ghz, 800 Mhz FSB, 2 MB L2 cache)
Memory: 3000MB RAM
I have no mods or tweaks.
I've done the whole processor affinity fix. I've switched the compatibility mode on and off and to different OS. I switched off the 640 x 480 resolution as well. To my surprise, after I did all this, the menu finally shows up.
I'm not sure, but I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with having the laptop plugged in or not.
I know it sounds silly, but I don't know.
I'm expecting it to turn to the black screen when I turn the laptop off again.

Okay, on a fresh install of the game use the (
http://www.strangebedfellows.de/index.php/topic,392.0.html) SS2Tool with all options checked. Then test. It may be that due to your OS being Vista the DDFix doesn't install as expected. So if you're still having problems, please report back and we'll give you a walkthrough of manually installing DDFix, if you don't want to try it yourself.

Will this fix the whole affinity problem?
Hollow Man on 29/3/2009 at 00:43
SS2Tool has an option to fix the multi-core processor issue.
Detro Metro on 29/3/2009 at 01:12
Well, I downloaded the SS2 tool and I checked to see if it fixed the affinity and it did.
Is it a bad thing if I installed fixes for Bug Fixes and Patching Up twice?

I have possibly the same issue, but on my desktop. Whenever the game switches to a different screen, meaning between bulkheads or when accessing the main menu, sometimes it fails to draw to the monitor or the monitor doesn't catch it, leaving me with a black screen with working audio. When I turn off my monitor and turn it back on, however, the picture appears.
