What freaked me out was it was a different symbol each time I refreshed the page,
but any 2 digit number you pick will be the same symbol on that page.
I don't have the solution in front of me, but it is a mathematical progression that is used in card magic and many other matrix setups. You are forced to the symbol/card chosen by the presenter.
This is only one of hundreds of such "magic" setups.
It operates on the same system as:
Pick any number from 1 to 100.
Double it.
Add 100.
Divide by 2.
Subtract the number you first thought of.
And the answer is 50
You are setup by the double-talk. Your number is discarded in line 5 and you are only dividing the 100, which leaves you the 50 that they want you to end up with.

Yeah, but that thread doesn't have Renegen being a tard, so it's not as much fun.

Because I'm a bastard, I'm going to reveal the magic. But because I'm not a total asshat, I'm at least going to use spoiler tags.
If you take any two digit number and subract from it the sum of its parts, (ex. 54 - (5+4)) you'll end up with a multiple of nine. Ninety, however, is exempt, since you can't reach it except from a number greater than 99, which terminates the 2 digit qualification. If you look at the 'magic' symbol table, all of the numbers divisible by nine, except for 90, are the same symbol. You have no choice except to choose that symbol as a consequence of how the math works out. Something I find amusing is that they also included 0 in the 'magic' symbol list in case you try to cheat the system by picking a 1 digit number.
Of course, now that I've looked at the old threads, both of which had solutions in them, I feel rather silly for explaining it yet again.

It's not that simple. You didn't mention something important that usually confuses people.

It is that simple... I don't see anything else there that would confuse people.
