The secret door to the MJ12 section of the house, is there a way to open it?
<small>(D'oh, the OTHER secret door, of course. The one in the living room near the Buddha...)</small>
:) That's a question that's been buggin' me for some time.

Never successfully done it myself - except from the other side of course after the dragon's tooth was picked up.

This is kind of stupid, I know, but sometimes it seems to open by itself if you hang around the mezzanine at the right moment. It happened to me last time I played DX: I sneaked upstairs on my first visit without alerting anyone (even the maid was still where she'd escorted me to) and having messed with Ms. Chow's security terminal in the conference room, on my way out I noticed the door was open.

Erm... okay, I admit it. I have searched in Maggie's appartment for several hours already, because the buddha in her living room (the one in the glass box at the bottom of the stairs, right?) irritated me so much. I never found anything interesting there, though, which irritated me a lot.
You say that you can open a secret door next to this glass box-buddha, coming from the other side of it? How?
I have also always a certain button in next to the hidden stairs (the area with the MJ12ers) that does not seem to do anything at all, although I thought I had figured out that it opens the elevator doors one floor below, so that I can jump through the elevator shaft and get the scrambler grenade. But I may be totally way off with that assumption.
I always played along with Maggie as well, and went to the police station before roaming around in her appartment too much... maybe that's why I missed anything about that buddha-in-the-box?

I'm sure the buddha or something near it is a hidden door because you can always hear the MJ12 if you make noise to alert them. And you usually hear noises only when there's a door nearby, as the walls tend to block all sounds.
Besides, there is a hole under the Buddha, that I discovered with the "ethereal" cheat. It's as if the Buddha could slide down to open a passage in that wall. I still need to verify that though, I know that the HK levels are full of weird surprises only visible with cheats and/or the editor.
I hadn't associated that button with the door below. Interesting observation.
OT: And while I'm back in HK, I'll go in search of that mysterious dead cat...

Too bad I'm far beyond HK at this moment - in the ocean lab to be specific.
What dead cat do you mean averroes?
Lytha on 18/7/2003 at 20:34
BR79, there was rumour about another dead kitten, this time in a restaurant in HK, but no one seems to have seen it, except the guy who posted the rumour, maybe.
averroes - ah... I thought you had found a way to open that door or to move the buddha's glass box around, coming from the other side in some way.
I <i>think</i> that this glass box is sitting on the top of the maintainance elevator shaft or maybe on top of the room with the scrambler grenade. It made me quite nervous for a while though, as it just looks like it <b>might</b> be possible to open it.
Maybe they designed this part of the game in this way so that you will most likely hear the mj12ers' voices before taking the maid serious with her <i>"Have a look around"</i>-line, as she will turn hostile as soon as you take her literally and go to have a look around in the upper floor. If you hear the mj12ers saying their typical lines maybe saves as a warning that something is very wrong in this appartment - so that you're not so nonplussed when the maid suddenly points her gun at your head while you are toying around with the security computer upstairs...

hold on...are we talking to door in the room with the piano?
if so then IIRC the switch to open it is hidden in a light fixture on the wall next to it.
