The culmination of the main quest.
I haven't got to that yet, so don't know exactly what you find there, but I hope it's HARD.

It's easy if you took the path I did and did a bunch of side quests before you did the main mission (was master of like, 4 factions before I finished it)
Honestly though, defeating him at the end is easy.

I've just finished the main quest for the first time - custom Combat-classed Imperial. I decided that on my first play I would try and complete the main quest and not join any factions ( Both because I didn't think any of the available factions fitted my character, and because I didn't then realise how important factions are to the game ) I found it quite hard, very difficult at the end, but not impossible. I levelled up quite quickly ( because I used my skills a lot ) and spent a lot of time doing "independent" work like looting shrines and Dwemer ruins.
It hasn't been that long since I got Morrowind, so I'm still learning about the game mechanics and I made some mistakes - in particular I neglected my armor skills - at the end of the Main Quest at level 24 my Armor Rating was still something like 38 or 39. Mostly I depended on a maxed-out Long Blade skill and a Daedric Dai-katana ( Thank you, Bolyn Venim :) ) to kill anything I came up against before it could really hurt me that much.
A few days ago, after completeing the Main Quest, I decided to restart and play again, using my better understanding of the game that I had picked up. I decided to play a Magic-focused character with some combat ( Dark Elf, Apprentice sign ) I still run out of Magicka sometimes and use a Sabre and Chitin armor. I'm currently Level 6, and preparing to join House Telvanni. I probably like the Magic classes better, actually.
Morrowind is a great game, and I'm hoping to get Tribunal soon.

Heh, High Elf/Atronach is a possibility, but being unable to regenerate magicka sucks. Breton/Mage sign rather sucks as well.
Breton/Apprentice, however, is perfect. You essentially cancel out the weakness of that sign with Bretonic resistance to magicka. I've started my Breton/Apprentice off with, IIRC, 180 magicka pts. at level 1. Not too shabby.
A pure mage is probably not much of an idea, but give a Conjuration-oriented mage long blade and see how much damage you deal with a bound longsword. Mmm, mmm.

I have a trick for you. Build a high-elf athronach with 3x int and 50 absortion. Having a very big mana pool is essential for a wizard.
Then conjure an anchestor ghost and hit him with something. He will throw one or two fireballs at you then conjure another (dont wait to kill him) and continue until you get refilled. At the end conjure another ghost so he dont attack you.
You can also make almsivi intervesion / divine intervention / mark and recal amulets very easly. One of the mages guilds will give two of these after some interesting quests about the Dwarves.
You can then mark your position outside a dungeon or a quest place in a safe location then teleport to a temple with the almsivi or divine amulets and refill your mana at the altars. Then recall back to the quest in progress.
It costs money so i prefer the ghost conjuration. The problem is that when you have a big number of spells you never need to rest, so you need to rest from time to time just the game can raise your levels and attributes.
The problems with a wizard like this is the guys weekness and no armor abilities in replace for wizard skills. One hit with a axe from an ork can kill your pure wizard. You can compensate for this by using those illusion and parlization magics. And latter those fortify magiks for speed and endurance.

Or, you can take an axe and cleave the opponents skull, then rest!

Not if you are a skinny wizard who cant lift the weight of a daedric axe.

The magic combat system in MW isn't even fun in terms of flashiness or contedness, that is, totally nuking your opponent isn't as fun as it is in say, diablo2 or other such games...
So why the added micromanagement for something less effective, takes more time, can be done fewer times in succession, is less dependable, and doesn't feel happy?

ok i have a lvl 14 mage/antronach/altmer
to get back magic in 3 easy steps...
1. do some quests for the imperial cult( look in ebonheart for the quest givers, theres 3 at 1st.)
2. get a fair rank in the cult
3. go to any imperial cult shrine, it should cost 0 donation if you have the right rank in the cult, then pick restore attributes as many times as needed to refill magicka!
its that easy.

I dont understand very well what you are saying with falshiness or contendness. I just like the mage athronach because it is a completely different way of playing the game, and doing those quests i missed in another character.
I have to plan better and analyze the terrain first before deciding what to do. And its usually going invisible or using chameleon with telekinesis to get stuff. If i need to get something from a NPC then paralyzation is my best friend, i havent tryed any other means yet that dont require fighting, the weak spot for my character.
The worst mission i have had until now is that for the mages guild the player has to go to a dwemer ruin and steal an old dwemer scematics. Its a very confined place full of orks with axes and nasty weapons. I was able to steal the scematics easly with invisibility and empty the place with telekinesis but geting the armor and weapons from the bad guys was another story.
An experienced warrior would have an easy job with it but thats why its fun playing a mage. You have to play it like a mage and forget about all the warrior tactics.
