Hmmm... we all know that fightning is not the reason that people play Marrowind. Its the freedom, etc.
Well i really want to do a mage, but apparantly it can never be as strong as those fighters with that crazy enchanted 100 damage for everything!!
Is this true? cause i kinda want to do magic, for some strange reason
if i can ....can anyone give me setups for the spell caster? sign...etc...
plus...does mana become a problem?
So many questions....god bless anyone who can answer anything....plus include stuff i didnt ask....if you are too confused also...lol
Basically, give me some direction, PLEASE, and not so vague....
Thank you so much in advance!

also....in general....are warriors always going to be better than mages?
or are there some spells that make spell casters worth it as oppose to those uber characters with everything enchanted?

mages have some good qualties, able to cast a variety of spells, travel light, and deal damage. the best setup for a mage would be a high elf, class: mage, and sign: antronach. it is hard to get started as a mage because you have to have some speeld to attack with, i carry a short sword with me incase i run out of magic since the antronach cant regenerate magic unless you drink potions or absorb it. i have a lvl 8 mage the i am very confident could stand up to some level 15 characters. i have already got the lords mail, and even though i specialize in unarmored it gives me +6 armor rating so i wear it for now. the hardest part of being a mage is the first couple levels, they arent as strong. but they have way more magicka, intelligence, willpower, etc. i reccomend to go for it :thumb:

hmmm...interesting details....
and i thank you so much for taking time to answer me...
however, my main question is still not decided yet...
if the best spell is enchant.....wouldn't it just be better to do a fighter character...whatever the spell-caster can do... example...possibly being able to open locks (100) or whatever... it seems that the warrior cn just get a scroll for it
plus...as for traveling....the warrior can easily use scrolls (asmili-transportation..or whatever it is called....)
and as for your suggestion... of doing the atronach... to use mana potions to refresh magika... wouldn't that get too costly....theyre like 165 or such?

Why don't you make a combination of both?
I have a mage with almost full Deadric armor :P (Always wanted to make a mage with Heavy armor). For close combat I use the Umbra Sword and when my mana has run out I use a Deadric bow for ranged attacks.
Besides that I use a lot of spells, mosly levitate, mark and recall. But also an amount of destructive spells.
If you want to make some heavy spells you should make your own (at a mage that can create spells). Then you can make a spell that damages health and does an amount of poison damage (or something) on a target.
It takes some time to get this mastered and all but you will rock :D
I am level 58 now with this character and I love to use my 50 Yard radius for 10 seconds Fireball spell (it's expensive and hard to cast but very kewl).

Yes. Compared to warriors, mages suck. Basically the top damage dealer in the game is a specialist with an enchanted daedric dai-katana. The best taker of damage is a brute nord in full daedric armor. The easiest class to play in terms of preperation for battle is a magic less warrior. A warrior can be trained to easily do the special abilities a mage (gate, bind etc) and a thief (open lock etc) can do.
Basically, warriors are WAY over balanced, and MW is hella easy if you know what the fuck you're doing in combat and in character creation.
But that doesn't mean you can't dabble in magic and make a happy-go-lucky mage that can beat the game, it just means that you won't be half the fighting power of a well thought out warrior. We give and mitigate the most damage.

In a game like this, it really doesn't matter what you start out as, in the end, you will have maxed out all the skills(stealth, magic, or fighting)... so you will be able to do anything.

As for enchants, Mages get free enchants. Without a good enchant level, and good inteligence* you will have to pay tens and tens of thousands on enchantments. I am a level 7. I bought one greater soul gem for 60, and trapped a soul, for a small amount of magika. The gem was then worth 6000. So I enchanted a basic staff with 31 fire dammage on strike. I then went to test it out and killed about 3 or 4 creatures, until I came upon a kougouti(spelling?) and he was too high a level for my low blunt weapon skill. So after firing a few 15-30 dammage spells outa my magika pool, I went back inside my house and took out a greater soul gem with a dremora, worth 6000. And I enchanted my bonemold curios with 35 fire dammage. I went to test it out, but all the creatures nearby were dead. Then I saw some dude just standing there, I fired on him once, he turned at me, half dead, so I double clicked. BAM BAM, Within one second I had fired off two more shots and killed him. Way too easy!
As for potions, ALCHEMY! My favorite skill. Create a potion to do whatever you want. I have a potion I like to make for when I'm getting beatup. Crab Meat, Saltrice, Corckbulb Root. It gives you Restore Health, Restore Fatigue, and Lightning shield. All of them depend on Alchemy level, and Ineligence.* Be carefull though It is very easy to ruin the game through alchemy, as potions sell for a pretty penny, depend on your stats when you made them. Anyway, you can do telikenis, dispel, levitate, water walk, and many others. Restore magika by the way costs 76 a potion, but get better mecantile, and I get mine for 63.
Yes, High Elf, Mage, Atronarch is the way to go, at lest for me. I tried a breton, mage, mage. But I ended up drinking 5 times as many potions, tring to keep my magika up in a fight. I make potions that will fill all of my 315 magika in one shot. I have already told you how, read carefully.
One more thing, With the forementioned class, you get 50pts absorb. That means half a chance to take all of the Magika they throw at you into your pool. Enchanted Items included.
Just my $.02

Or if you're a warrior it's 'I found a big sword and squashed some big oogly and stole a bigger sword then went to sleep!'
As for maxing out all your skills, yeah, but the game can be hard if you don't know where that one plantation, with the daedric/ebony armor and daedric daikatana is etc, and are just starting out, and aren't a pussy and go to dagoth Ur (like I did!) as soon as possible.... Then you might find it hard with a shitty mage class...

whats at dagoth Ur?
