Well, Steam reviews are the province of the knee-jerk brigade. If the 'review' is one line about the frame rate after booting up the game once, it's not doing anyone any favours. For any game released on PC, Steam reviews really aren't something you should predicate a purchase upon.

30 fps? Lol. They probably tied the game logic to frame rate. The industry is doomed to repeat it's mistakes unless they can retain their veterans instead of pushing them out.

Game's out on Steam and all I see are melodramatic complaints about totally playable 30FPS, and absolutely nothing at all about the game's content. It's official, the PC master race is actually the more superficial one.
1. Framerate is not superficial bollocks like graphical bling, it affects the ENTIRE GAMEPLAY EXPERIENCE, you moron.
2. Framerate options have already been patched into the PC version, the day after launch. PC gamers don't take shaftings from these publishers lying down, we aren't corporate slaves like a lot of console gamers are.

Only had to watch until half-way through to realise that a game with a 7 minute glitch compilation barely 48 hours after release isn't in a good state.

So, did no one actually end up playing this thing around here? Tomi? Anyone?
I started it up last night after work and was immediately engrossed with it. Very strong start, with a gripping story and great gameplay. The stealth might be a bit barebones, but solid. I'd heard that the ability to whistle to lure guards over made it so easy as to be meaningless, so I'm avoiding whistling. Unless I really need to. The shootouts are good too. You're always quite low on ammo so you can't really sit in one place and pick people off from behind cover, instead you constantly need to be moving, changing cover, punching people out, grabbing their guns, and keeping on firing back. I turned the aim assist off(playing on PS4) and the shooting feels a bit like that in The Last of Us. In fact all the movement and fighting feels much like TLOU, the same kinda weight to your movement.
Something else that has a lot of weight to it are the cars. I've seen some people poo-pooing the driving in this, but I love it. Big boxy 60's muscle cars and station wagons that slide around all over the place, like the cars in Driver, or the older cars in GTA IV. In the settings you can even crank up the vehicle settings from Normal to Simulation. Makes for a very challenging and fun driving experience.

My current computer can't even dream of running a game like Mafia 3, so I'll have to wait until I get around to upgrading it. I also got the impression that the new Mafia isn't all that great, since it hardly ever gets mentioned anywhere and I remember it getting some rather negative/mediocre reviews too. But you've just restored some of my enthusiasm again. :D

A few hours in I'm starting to see where some of the negative feedback is coming from. Mission variety is certainly lacking. There's few over-the-top action spectacles, instead it's all very workman-like, mission after mission of assassinations, theft, sabotage, and building your empire. I'm enjoying the gameplay and experimenting with different approaches enough that it doesn't feel grindy yet, but I can see it getting there eventually.

Enjoying the game. Good shootin' and drivin'! Alright stealth. Story started off good, but has pretty much taken a backseat since the first couple hours, now it's more just of a "criminal empire building sim".

How does it compare to, say, GTA V? I have to say that even though I like open-world games, have greatly enjoyed a bunch of Ubisoft-style games and find the period this is set in interesting, almost everything I've seen and read about it has left me surprisingly uninterested. Is it worth getting (eventually, when it's discounted again) for virtual tourists like me?
