Perhaps this is old news for most of you, but since I don't follow gaming news that closely these days (especially not on my summer vacation), I only found out about this like fifteen minutes ago. Now that I've recovered from the initial shock, I thought that I'd share these (old) news with you guys:
It's official now, there will be Mafia 3. \:D/ Yes, Mafia number three! Tres! Trois! Tre! Kolme! Drei!
*cries a little tear of joy*

Some of you may remember my previous Mafia rants in here and I sincerely apologise for wasting your precious time, but Mafia 1 remains one of my favourite games of all time, so this is the best gaming news I've heard all year. Mafia 2 turned out to be a slight disappointment, mainly because of the story that felt a bit rushed and the somewhat immature writing, but it was still a solid game that was a lot of fun to play. Judging by the very limited gameplay footage of Mafia 3 that I've seen so far, the gameplay seems to be quite similar to Mafia 2, and for me that's both good and bad. The controls in the first Mafia game may have felt clunky as hell at times, but I never really had a problem with it and I loved how brutally difficult the game was at times. Mafia 2 was smooth, fast and much more action-oriented, but it also felt quite easy-peasy and less immersive compared to the first game. I truly hope that this time they find some good balance between those two.
Anyway, what really got me excited about the trailer was the 1968 setting. The classic 1910s and 1920s "Italian mafia" era is the most interesting setting for me, and I was secretly hoping that they'd go back to that, but after seeing the trailer, I think that this 1960s and 1970s thing could turn out to be really good as well! There are so many interesting themes that they could cover, I only hope that this time they don't ruin the potentially good stuff with some immature writing. And if all else fails, at least the soundtrack should be really good.
Anyone else excited about this? Even a tiny little bit? :p

Mafia was a great game alright -- wonderful characters, atmosphere, variety and story that in combination overshadowed the rough patches and general clunkiness of the combat (which was still pretty good anyway). Although I picked up the sequel on Steam I've never gotten around to actually playing it, which is partly the result of the general feedback that it received but mostly a consequence of the way that Mafia ended as I never expected a sequel anyway to be honest.
Still, different era, new story and some time in between drinks makes this look a whole lot more appealing now.

I loved the choice of tracks on the cinematic trailer. There's no finer track than that one if you want some fiery apocalyptic mood-setting.
The reaction to the gameplay hasn't been all that great however - I've seen people howling that it looks like the bastard lovechild of Just Cause and Saints Row. Saw a snippet of it, it did indeed have lots of cars needing little encouragement to blow up and a melee move that looked like it was taken out of Saints Row with some blood slammed on. Still too early to tell if it's left everything Mafia behind, though.

Mafia remains as one of my top 5 of all time. Mafia 2 was good but not special. Here's hoping the third will be great.

All along the watchtower... eh, overused.
House of the rising sun I can dig though.

You took that post seriously? Wow. Did you know that they removed gullible from the dictionary?
Vito from Mafia 2 is back as a supporting character, part of Lincoln's crew. Lincoln is supposed to be mixed race, so people have already theorised that he's Joe's son.

So how were we supposed to take it if not seriously?
As a joke?
The dregs of humour. It's beneath even you.

Really though? Anyone took it seriously?
