The trailers had me right up until the end. Then they lost me with the cheesiest lines I could ever have imagined.

BUT THAT'S WAHT THEY ACTUALLY SAID!
I kind of agree with Monkeysee. But on the other hand I love the style of this (in the trailer at least). It'll be a let down, but a good looking let down. Like Transformers.

Betcha the Transformers could have beaten the Spartans at Thermopylae (sp?).

The cgi ain't superfluous, it's part of the very conception of the film. The avowed goal was to make a movie that captured the look of the Miller graphic novel as exactly as possible, and they decided that the 'Sin City' approach was the way to go. You can find images of some the movie shots as they progress through the sfx process, starting with actors in front of a green screen and ending up at a still from the trailer several steps later. The effects are integral to the look of the film, not some half-assed Jar-Jar/Water planet nonsense.
Oh, thank you. The fact that they made it suck
deliberately makes it
ever so much better.

Because we all know that the only valid visual style is for a movie to mimic reality as closely as possible.
Personally, I applaud movies like this and Sin City that use green screens and CGI to subvert the visuals and give us a style that we've never seen before. Whether the result works is another matter entirely, but from the trailer I'd say this movie appears to have pulled it off.

Who's actually read "300"? Because based on the trailers I've seen, this is going to be a very direct translation of those books, just as Sin City was, so arguments against the CGI or stylistic direction are kind of missing the point. This isn't a movie based on Frank Miller's "300"; this is Frank Miller's "300."

So, okay, wait, does this movie suck? Or not?
Because I haven't seen it yet.
And obviously some of you have.

I argee with maly, aside from hundreds of bare chested men the trailer was absolute badassness. I just didnt exactly understand why they all had to be shirtless, maybe thats integral to the plot of the graphic novel.
