Apologies for my over-simplifications. I had a label slapped on me, and immaturely responded in turn.
I don't believe that actions movies are purely gratuitous violence, but as far as I can tell (and if trailers are any indication) they sure have a fair bit of it. I don't claim to know much about them - I've seen a good chunk of action movies in my day but not nearly as many as most people my age, let alone people who are older. What is an 'action' movie? I dunno. I've always thought of it as a movie where the likelyhood of things blowing up/speeding up/doing something that creates lots of noise is very high. Yeah, I could go look up on Wikipedia what an action movie is, but where's the fun in life if you just go to Wikipedia for everything?
My point still stands, though. Insulting someone just because they disagree with you or don't have a masterful understanding of a genre is pretty lame. Unless it's funny, I suppose. Which that wasn't.
Plus, genre debates are about as insignificant as you get. I'm not saying the whole "genres are just human creations and are meaningless" thing, because like all such categorizations they make the universe easier to navigate, particularly for people unfamiliar with the category. But I differ from many filmmakers, reviewers, etc. in my belief that GENRE IS NOT AN EXCUSE.

I don't know what this film will turn out like, but the trailer sure is one massive cheesy bollockfest.

Yes.
I don't really care how historically accurate this is or whether or not the true tale would make for a more compelling story--such debate utterly misses the point--but goddamn this movie looks like a bucket of shit.

Well, they were fighting to keep Greece free from foreign tyranny. Domestic tyranny was ok.
A lot of people forget that it was the Spartan hostility to tyrants (in the classical violent-seizure-of-power sense, not the modern being-a-shitty-ruler sense) that resulted in the Athenian democracy. I bet the Spartans were really kicking themselves for that one years later.

I would have expected that two upstanding forum members such as yourselves would be able to determine that the trailer in question is, in fact, supremely cool.
You disappoint me, gentlemen.
