I'm proud of you Aero, admitting that you have a problem is the first step to recovery.

OnionBob is right. There are chase sequences too.

Don't make me spank you Malygris. My point is that the battle of Thermopylae was interesting enough as it was (don't you dare go down the revisionist-history-Herodotus-LOL path) without dumbing it down. If there was a tradition of homosexual paedophillic relationships then why not portray that, why does it have to be: "cousin, totally my cousin I swear"?
Because this isn't a history lesson, this is a comic book movie. I'm not laying down my ten bucks for accuracy; I'm spending my money because I want to see swinging swords and flying blood and scary-looking guys and larger-than-life figures shouting things like THIS IS SPARTA. There is more to life, and movies, than just facts, and if I'm gonna pop for admission plus some corn and a drink, I sure as hell better get more for my money than a Discovery Channel special.
But you can still spank me if you want.

I had a feeling people like you had to exist out there somewhere; why else would movie studios keep pumping out the same crap over and over again? Somebody has to be making money off of it somewhere?

The oldest form of debate.
Well, second oldest.

I hear there's also CGI nowadays.
If you think all of those romance movies are just about the relationship shit-
Anyway, totally siding with the woefully maligned Monkeysee side. My problem with giving real events a Hollywood action movie gloss isn't that I have a fetish for historical accuracy above an interesting story; it's that the glossed over version is less interesting than the real stuff. More irritatingly, it's less interesting
every fucking time. Swinging swords and flying blood just doesn't catch my attention like it used to. What's the goddamn point? An honest exploration Spartan life and culture, seeing how real human beings act in situations completely alien to the modern world (and that
shaped the modern world, motherfuckers), on the other hand -- now that kind of story really hooks me*. That's the kind of movie that I can shell out DVD dollars for, the kind I can watch over and over again because I see something new every time.
*And by hooks me, I mean gives me a raging erection. It's not just the homosex, though that helps.

Except in this case he would be correct. If you truly think the action movie genre boils down to nothing more than gratuitous violence, you at best have a very poor understanding of the genre. You're clearly smart, even if you (as of yet) lack the frame of reference to judge the success of any piece of work on its own merits.
This applies to virtually anything you've ever said about any form of entertainment, book club contributions excepted. I'm not really picking on you because at one point in time we would have had a lot in common.
