Hold on a second, what the fuck, when did you stop being "killed in the Tsunami," and why didn't I notice before now?

The whole mysognistic viewpoint was raised by my wife, who found the film very uncomfortable and sadistic to watch.
breaking news, sin city was sadistic and uncomfortable.

On the flip side, feminists are always getting trashed for being "man-haters" but I know a lot of feminists and curiously the only instances of man hating that I've ever seen have come from other men.
The ones that wail the loudest typically are the ones who are heard the most.
And the ones that wail the loudest often enough happen to be just that, if the papers are to be believed.

Sadistic, certainly, but uncomfortable? Why? I loved Sin City & 300. They are only movies, not reality. Why does that make you uncomfortable? Does it hit too close to the deep dark secret inner you that you try not to acknowlege? Just wondering.

It's no secret that bears come out of their hybernation a lot thinner than they were before their snooze. Oh, wait. You said "inner." Never mind.

Historical accuracies get flung out the window since its an interpretation of events in the onctext of the artist's vision. Being the view of Frank Miller telling it through a soldier's story of Leonide's tale and likely as exagerated abit as well no doubt..Besides it's the actual battle thats interesting.

I find that attitude as naive and uncritical as "Brutal movies/games turn their audiences into raving, bloodthirsty madmen!!!!" What we see on the screen has some sort of influence on us. It is definitely not a simple, one-to-one brainwashing we get, but culture does influence our thinking, just as our thinking influences culture.

Even if you enjoy it, I think its probably bad if you're not slightly uncomfortable, although I wasnt really. I really liked Sin City btw.
A movie that was somehow really uncomfortable for me was Children of Men, great movie but it was somehow harsh to watch.

Good movie, but just about the only films that make me uncomfortable are some of the really hard core Japanese bondage porn. I find them strangely & embarrassingly seductive.

I don't dispute that, nor I am saying I was totally unaffected. Society has become progressively more permissive of displays of violence which is reflected in many facets of life today. I think my lack of strong response to violent things stems from how common violence has become in every day life. I'm just accustomed to it and perhaps expect it.
