I watched it and it wasn't bad. The CG blood wasn't too great, and I thought the deformed dwarf looked pretty terrible. It was worth seeing in the theater if you're jonesin for exactly what it shows in the trailer: lots of people jumping through the air with spears and a whole lot of dudity.
Also this movie would've been 30 minutes long if all the slo-mo sequences had played out in real time.

OH COME OFF IT. I'm sorry man, but that is just ridiculous. Would it have been less patriarchal if he had simply broken her neck, or cut her throat, or beaten her to death, or tossed her off a building (huh-huh, he said tossed-off!)? What if Bullseye had decapitated her as she did with the immortal and supposedly uber-ninja Kirigi, which in my almost non-existent understanding of japanese translates as 'soul-cutter'? Peace, I'm not looking for a fight, but that's overanalyzing because...
iirc, the actual shot of it has, in silhouette, Bullseye holding the sai two handed at about waist level and ramming it upwards through her abdomen (I tried to find it with GIS, but to no avail). So yes, a neck snap, decapitation, or flung from rooftop would have been
slightly less male power domination fantasy. [edit]And when you factor in that Bullseye's whole supervillain schtick is that he kills people by throwing shit at them, it becomes even more apparent that there's some disturbing subtext in his up close impalement of Elektra

Comic book heroes never have happy endings with their loves.
There's a difference between a tragic death defining a character at their inception, and taking an established character and creating a new love interest for them with the express intent of killing them off at the end of the story arc.

I think that's now one of my new favorite words. XD

I should also point out that I thought Sin City was fantastic. The whole mysognistic viewpoint was raised by my wife, who found the film very uncomfortable and sadistic to watch. That said, 300 looks like a load of homoerotic shouty crap.

Meh. . personally I found that at best, Sin City was utterly boring and at the worst it was mysoginistic on a covert level. It was like they were all:
"Oh damn, the wimmins in the audience are gonna be pissed that we made all the female characters whores and then we ain't gonna get LAID BECAUSE OF IT!!!!"
"We must do something. . "
"I KNOW! Let's make the women aggressive man murderers because we somehow think that's what all feminists want to do to us men and that equals FEMALE LIBERATION!"
"Wow, that will cover our asses totally!"
"LET'S DO IT."

And bitching about Zack Snyder's adaptation of Watchmen before a single frame of film has been shot, or it even has a shooting script, is BEYOND retarded. (Also, according to every movie news site ever, the David Hayter Watchmen draft that Paul Greengrass was going to make the movie with was borderline fantastic; though from what I've heard of the ending, I don't understand how the mechanism of the climax can have the same political ramifications that the one in the book did.)
First you say bitching about something without having seen it is retarded - then you defend a script based on hearsay. Wha?
I never "bitched" about Zack Snyder's adaptation - I expressed pessimism. There's a fine distinction, but I'm sure you can find it.
Edit: Wow, that came off way snobbier than I meant. Apologies! I'll leave it as I don't believe in historical revisionism, though.

No, I said bitching about something "before a single frame of film has been shot." Once casting announcements are made, and it goes into principal photography, and production stills start coming out, feel free to bitch all you want. At this point it's speculation of the highest order.
And defending a script based on script reviews from CHUD and IGN and AICN isn't defending it on hearsay. If it were, then no one would ever be able to say something was bad based on professional reviews.

Ditto. I thought that the one thing it had going for it - visual style - didn't last much longer than 10 minutes in keeping me interested. Sin City strikes me as such an adolescent fantasy.
Lady Taffer on 14/3/2007 at 10:24
You're right, the comic book style of filming was pretty much the only thing awesome about it.
Adolescent fantasy?. . I shudder to think how many guys besides Frank Miller are wanking off to this glorified snuff film. :tsktsk:

Much like football but I hope you join in watching that now you live in the land of the odd shaped balls.
