I can't believe there's not a thread about this already! They've been advertising the crap out of this movie on myspace, so I finally broke down and watched the trailer: holy crap! I guess it's adapted from a Frank Miller novel, about the Battle of Thermopylae. The thread title is definitely my favorite part in the trailer.
Here's to getting a change of pants when I go to the theater.

I found the graphic novel to be incredibly dull, so I'm not really that hyped about the movie.
Would be nice if I was wrong, though.

Thermopylae was before the ancients learned that Light Infantry (Persians) vs. Heavy Infantry (Greek Hoplites) != Victory, just as Heavy Infantry (Crassus) vs. Missile Cavalry in Open Terrain (Parthinians) = Slow Heavy Infantry Slaughter.
However, the drama of Thermopylae is what is so interesting... great idea for a movie like this.
(Along the same lines... anyone find Rome: TW more satisfying than Medeival II? Sorry, OT)

Yuck.
Given the way this trailer is looking, I won't be surprised if the dialogue scenes in the movie are in slow-motion, too.

I enjoyed the 300 series - last good thing Frank Miller did before I stopped paying attention - so I'm really looking forward to this. If it comes off as well as Sin City did, it should be a big winnah.

After what they did with The Iliad I have no hope for this one.
I mean let's just kill off Agamemnon, it's not as if he is a foil for Odyssius or anything, and it's not like The Odyssey still has to take place!

I'm betting the movie won't be all that great.

You'd have to pay me...I dunno, I guess about $75 to watch that? It looks unbearable.
Lemme guess: to avoid offending audience, they're going to pretend that the Spartans were all heterosexuals who only slept with people their own age, as opposed to the reality of them all being members of the Man-Boy Love Association.
I can't stand that shit. If they want to make a historical movie, make it fucking historical. If you want to make a heavy-metal over-budget action movie, get yourself a goddamn original setting, you lazy bastards - it's not like anything ELSE you're doing is original.
But hey, maybe I'll be wrong. Maybe the Spartan soldiers will all be screwing 9-year-old boys before battle*
*AFAIK they didn't actually station any 9 year old boys at the pass, but I imagine the entire movie doesn't take place at said pass, so...
And finally: "AN AGE OF FREEDOM IS UPON US!". WTF is he talking about? He plans on freeing all the slaves of Sparta (that outnumber the Spartans 10 to 1)? I think I missed that part of history.
