Lowest possible system Oblivion will run on. - by Schwaa2

io, I think the processor could be the bottleneck there - various articles have commented on how cpu intensive Oblivion is. That's why I can put 4 pass AA on with my 6600GT with no visible effect on frame rate, and I have the same processor as you. Really need a faster Athlon 64, or dual core chip.
What resolution are you running at, by the way?

There's definitely something amiss - IO seems to have more performance issues than most people with lesser systems.

Yup, he gets performance worse than my 9800 PRO/2500+ rig/

i run 1600x1200 but that's only because i know that my cpu is a bottleneck and there's no difference between that and 800x600 ... maybe it would make a difference in a big fight like that though? guess i will save before one and lower the resolution and see

From what I've read in this thread it seems like my system should be able to run Oblivion (even if a little slow), but when I start it up, in game there is hardly no object visible and everything is in colours of white and green, pink...
My system stats are:
Pentium 4, 1.8GHz
Ti4600 128MB
512M RAM
Windows xp
Whats wrong? Do I have to change the settings? I got the latest Video card driver but it still didn't help!

Your video card will
NOT run Oblivion. At all. No way, no how. It does not have the correct pixel shader version. Sorry.

1.8ghz P4 is below minimum, GeForce 4600 is below minimum, and 512ram is at the minimum, so it seems like your system should have no hope of running the game

MrSidnet: I suppose your memory is PC133, since you're using an AMD (Athlon XP?) 2000+?
I dont remember what RAM i have. Im pretty sure that the 512 stick is PC400, but I dont really remember. Im not up to par with my knowledge of RAM.

Gonna install it on my laptop..
Pentium Centrino M1700MHz
ATI Radeon x700 256MBram
512MB Ram
60GB Hdd
"sound card"
If anyone got any idea or experiences with a similar specced laptop on Oblivions i would be most pleased to hear about it.
Haven't recieved the game yet, so got no idea if i should upgrade. Only thing that could be a slight bottleneck would be the memory.

Just for reference, I've got it running on a ASUS P4PE mobo with P4 2.53Ghz with 1Gig RAM and a Radeon 9600 (vanilla). It runs a bit jerkily at 1024 x 768, with no AA or Bloom, or anything else fancy, and most of the draw distance options turned nearly off. It looks great though, and it's ok until you get into a fight, when it's a bit difficult to control, and magic effects slow it down too.
A few random crashes (both desktop and blue screen and occasionally reboot) - often enough so that you have to quicksave regularly, which makes it a bit too annoying to play fully immersively (i.e. you are just getting really deep into it when BANG).
It runs a bit more smoothly at 800 x 600 of course, and a bit more smoothly still at 640 x 480, but tbh the tiny bit of better control isn't worth the graphics cost.
Basically, I'm going to wait to finish the game till I get an upgrade (got to lvl 10) - the mobo could happily run a P4 3.6, 2 Gig RAM and one of the higher end AGP cards (7800GS or X850 - might go for the Nvidia actually). Judging by current performance I'm thinking this should enable me to run at desktop 1280 x 1024 with most (but not all) sliders at max and get about 30fps.
