Z - Yeah, I knew MJ12 and the Greys 'existed' outside Delta Green, it was just the first thing that came to mind - not surprising having finished a half-year campaign this summer. Put a grin on my face, I can tell you.
Chris - Succinct confirmation of what I'd suspected since seeing Throne/6G and Angel/0A, and hearing Paul refer to 'God clearance'. What I can never remember is the order they all come in.
tomi - Haven't had much time for games recently. Quite a bit of my time has been taken up with (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=71867) the religious debate over in CommChat - I've become quite wrapped up in it, and it's rather fun.

@CoK: My apologies as well. It wasn't necessary for me to bring this up like this in a public forum. Personal messages are the tool for things like this. To cool things off, I'll withdraw from the forums for undetermined time (hint?).
@Jenesis: Damn! How did I miss that? Too busy, I guess. Well, you show them: stir up some good arguments, eh?

It's too long, give a summary.
Having decided not to read it I give my only religious debate advice even though it might not apply:
Make sure you get the most accurate translation possible, King James is positively wretched. Things change when you get a more accurate translation, for one references to hell become fewer and fewer (most often it is in fact the word “grave") some think the disappear entirely. Things like that.

Well, I'm now about to escape from an MJ12 facility (Daedalus, whoever he may be (don't tell me! - though my guess is Silhoutte), has given me the exit code). I was pretty miffed to find that, having escaped from Anna and Gunther, and found Jock's helicopter, I couldn't get on it. I later found that if you run out of the subway up the stairs rather than through one of the grates and up a ladder, Jock flies off. It was somewhat depressing to have to walk up to a military bot to get shot after making my escape (Ballistic Armour + Ballistic Protection Aug (Lev2) + Speed Enhancement (Lev3) + Microfibral Muscle (Lev1) + Thermoptic camo = teh win). Never mind. And Paul is dead :(
tomi - not surprised you missed it, it's a pretty major thread hijack.
chris - I may give a summary at some point, now you mention it - might not be a bad idea. I wanted to answer the questions as thoroughly as possible, was all.

It is sad when Paul dies. :(
(hint (<i>light</i> spoiler):
listen to what Gunther tells you when he arrests you. He will tell you "Paul is already dead" or "We are here to take you and Paul alive", so you have an early feedback if you saved him or not.
)
(hint (<i>bigger</i> spoiler):
just don't leave through the bedroom window, no matter how often he tells you to do that. Always leave through the front door in this case.
)

I started something approaching a newbie journal, starting where I left off in the thread. This then turned into just my thoughts as I played. I thought you might be interested, so here it is...
Note - when I ask questions, please don't actually answer them, or you'll spoil the surprise.
Me, back in the days when life was simple and UNATCO were the good guys:
'Hmm, I wonder what's on level 4 of the UNATCO headquarters...'
Me, finding myself spirited away to an MJ12 base:
'Hey, I wonder if I'm on Level 4 of the UNATCO base. It would explain why Anna is down here, sort of.
So I get released by some chappie called Daedelus, and I'm on my way, killswitch activated, rescuing a guy called Miguel on the way. The place appears to be the same level that appeared in the intro. I find Paul's body, some weird creatures, and most of my old gear, as well as an Aug canister. Eventually I get to the exit, and find myself on...Level 4 of the UNATCO base! MJ12 seems inextricably linked with the place, but at least most of the main cast is still with me. I tell Jaime and Alex to bug out, and find that Anna and Gunther have killphrases, but I can only get half of Anna's. Presumably this will come in handy later...
Up to level 2, knocking out the troops as I go, and confront Manderley, and Simons over a communications link. Breaking into Manderley's computer, I grab the other half of Anna's killphrase (convenient, that, since Alex will give me a door key when she's dead), and head on out, only to have to turn round and give Manderley a good prodding when he starts firing at me.
Up to level 1. Call Anna a flatlander woman, and BOOM. Interesting that she knew what the phrase meant for her. Back down to Alex, grab the key, off and onto Jock's helicopter...
From here on, I've just added my thoughts as I've gone along.
What? An MJ12 base? Grr...Still, quite simple to break out.
So, the Luminous Path Triad is what Paul was involved with. And Maggie Chow is the baddie. According to Chow, however, she and the Red Arrows are trying to stop a Luminous Path/MJ12 alliance. Interesting theory, my dear. Perhaps you'd care to explain the MJ12 outpost just off your tea room? Knock out troops, grab sword, run.
So, let's log on here, in the Luminous Path HQ. What's the IIS network? Their symbol appears to be a triangle with an eye in it. Wonderful. Please, please, please tell me I'm not working for the Illuminati. Which would make a lot of sense, given that Tong is part of the 'Luminous Path' Triad. I thought the Illuminati were in league with MJ12 – I think it was even suggested by Alex's search on MJ12 I came across. Will I bring down MJ12 only to have the Illuminati come to power, in some Hitleresque battle of one secret organisaton killing off the other? Will I become Tong's slave, held in check by the killswitch?
[After talking to Alex]
Daedelus was an AI? Designed to find suspicious communications? Hmm...maybe it found a whole load, and decided to chase 'em down itself. MJ12, here we come. He certainly talks the way you might expect a machine to, when you look for it. May just be a ploy, though.
On to VersaLife...Nice secret lab you have here. WiBs as well as MiBs, I see. I take it these are the P Series agents? They seem to keep mentioning that some people here are androids – THEY would seem to be the androids, yet they fit the P Series description very well, unless I've missed something. On to the rest of the lab...genetically modified creatures, Aug canisters (help myself? Don't mind if I do.), and...hmm...Greys. Nice to see that they opted for something a little different from the usual four-foot-high grey gnome look. At least these have long arms. Grab the sword ROM (note to self – explore base BEFORE nicking info, fewer soldiers chase you), head out, slightly frustrated at not having found the way into Level 2.
Ah, that's why; it's the next mission. In, hack, tranquilise Chow, destroy UC, run.
[On the way out]
Hmm...it seems that Tong believes that the Illuminati are real, and are in league with MJ12, and owned the superfreighter being used to transport the Grey Death. So the Illuminati have reared their collective head. This still doesn't clear Tong of suspicion, however. Wheels within wheels.
So, Tong sees symbolism in these numbers. 17 and 23. Possibly. You have to wonder about an organisation that would leave so many clues behind. Or maybe that's the point. The conspiracy theorists get all worked up, everyone else goes 'meh'.
[Back at the Triad base, talking to Alex]
'Infection would be a ludicrously simple task' for the nano-virus, eh? Joy. What else does it do?
Daedelus - a real person, Tong says. Yet (almost?) all network addresses begin with Daedelus. Has the Net itself become conscious? I know from the forums that there's an AI called Helios somewhere (Area 51?) - may be a connection there. Daedelus (in mythology) built the Minotaur's maze, and so the king of Crete wouldn't let him leave, as he knew too much. This gave rise, IIRC, to the more famous wax-feather effort which resulted in his son, Icarus, biting the dust. Perhaps Daedelus - the current one - helped build up MJ12's power, and is now making a bid for freedom?
[Hell's Kitchen]
Hmmm...Daedelus appears to be malfunctioning...
And the Smuggler has an e-mail addressed to me? One phrase, over and over - ICARUS IS LOOKING FOR YOU. Daedelus AND Icarus...the plot thickens.
[Underground Tavern]
So...Filben says that MJ12 is a kind of lesser version of the Illuminati, a kind of child gone bad, perhaps, and he's giving the impression that the Illuminati are the good guys, working with the NSF. Tong said Dowd was a 'former leader', but suddenly he seems to be current. Odd. Maybe the Illuminati-style look of the virus is also just a hand-me-down. Still, if the Illuminati are the good guys, it would explain the things I noticed in Hong Kong.
Joe Green is a spy? Nuts, I've already talked to him. I'm going for the no-kill approach, though, so no deal on the assassination.
Commandeered sub facility? This gets worse and worse. Still, with Vinny's name, I have a way in.
Hey, let's check out that MJ12 base again...meh, not a lot there.
[Meeting Dowd]
So, Dowd confirms that MJ12 is the Illuminati gone bad, and that a former Illuminati manufactured the virus. And the freighter will be arriving at the Sub Base. I have to set five charges on the freighter - and Smuggler had a box of five LAMs. Handy, that.
Great, I need an extra 1400 credits for the LAMs. I may have to take Smuggler's advice and raid the base when I get there...

Not answering questions here, just a little on the names, though there are many reasons why Daedalus and Icarus might have been chosen (and it could just be someone liked Greek mythology) Helios would seem to have a very definite meaning to the name. Helios wasn't just another sun god (the more prominent one being Apollo) Helios was the sun. He saw everything, knew everything. If you remember that the AI's were originally created for data mining you see the meaning.
Basically what I'm saying is that although Daedalus Icarus and Helios are all for Greek mythology, the link between the first two names and the last might be non existent as there is a very good stand alone reason for the AI you have heard about to be called Helios.
(I don't think I gave anything away, if I did I am sorry.)
Just to add, I did not say anything (other than Helios) was an AI, I did not say it wasn't. You already know that there was once an AI project, and that was started for data mining of emails.
