Every time I hear Juliette talk, I just want to bash her fucking skull in. Is that wrong?
Hahah, she has a pleasant face but yes, the reassuring voice appears slightly overdone

I'm also, like GBM and others, rather sad about how disappointingly thin this season is beginning.
I'm in total agreement; especially after this week's episode. It should have been called
'The Jin and Sun Show'.
I'm already seriously weary of all the flashbacks and fear I'm losing interest. I'm getting the impression that the writers must be grabbing at straws to keep the show going; the flashbacks have become more than just 'fillers', seems to me they've comprised 75% of the first two episodes of this season.

I don't know... while I kind of found this episode a bit on the slow side too, there were a few ponderable points:
1. Establishing the father of Sun's baby is now a matter of timing. If the events of this episode's flashbacks were NOT recent, Jae could NOT be, meaning the island magic must have made Jin spermatically activated.
2. Did Jin's employer (Sun's father) have Jae killed because Jin was unable to do so, or did Jae commit suicide? In either case, why was he holding the pearl necklace he tried to give to Sun?
3. Since Jin now seems to understand English better than he has been leading everyone to believe, what else may he have understood in the past, but kept to himself? This is a tough one for me to swallow, because I don't believe he could have played it straight if he understood when Hurley told him to pee on his sea urchin wound. No way.
Most important to me, though, was the FINALLY revealed answer I've most wondered about since season one:
What Kate tastes like: STRAWBERRIES!!!
... thank you, producers. Now we know.
And, yeah, can't wait for next week! Locke-age! :thumb:

I, for one, firmly believe
Sun's daddy had Jae thrown out the window. He knew that Jin wouldn't be able to kill the guy, so he sent a backup. The pearl necklace in Jae's hand was a dead giveaway, imo.
Didn't see next week's previews, but sounds like we might find out how the other Lost kids are doing. Gawd I hope so!!
AND NO MORE FLASHBACKS FOR AWHILE, PLEASE!

AND NO MORE FLASHBACKS FOR AWHILE, PLEASE!That won't happen, unfortunately. Without the flashbacks the entire series would have told its story and ended by now.
What happened to the flashbacks that actually contributed something to the plot instead of just attempting to increase character depth some more?
Did I hear Ben/Henry right that he's been on the island his entire life? If so, was he born here?

Yeah, I think that's my big beef with it: The flashbacks aren't contributing to the current storyline. They used to mostly center around how they all wound up on that flight, and when the characters were only lightly-established that was great and groovy. Lately, and I include the tail end of last season in this, it just seems to be AND NOW IT'S TIME FOR RETRO-SOAP OPERA!!!!
To be honest, I think Jin and Sun became pretty fucking useless about the time Jin realised Sun could speak English. Or perhaps even before that when we found out Sun could speak English. The idea of having a pair of Koreans who really didn't understand the rest of the survivors added an interesting depth to the interpersonal stuff.

Dia -
I thought the pearl necklace was actually a dead giveaway that Jae jumped on his own, mainly because he realized that he'd never be able to be with Sun. Sun's father never even saw the pearl necklace, that we know of.
(I passed on the spoiler because I figure no one is going to read this thread unless they've been watching the show).

While the flashbacks are taking up more airtime than I think they should and they are getting more sappy and melodramatic, they are still useful. We learned that Sun picked up on her father's ruthlesness from a very early age- she's not the angelic supressed wife we thought she was. The flashback helped show why Sun was able to pick up on Sayid's lies so quickly and easily, and why she was able to shoot the Other on the boat.
It also gave us stuff to chew on about Sun and Jin's relationship- who actually knows what? It is a distraction from the main, much more interesting storyline, but hopefully this insight into thier characters will play back into the main plot. The writers have shown that they can pull things around and plug them back in in unexpected ways, so my fingers are crossed that they aren't just throwing scraps to the soap opera crowd.
Next week the monster makes a return....... that'll get me watching.
Dia on 13/10/2006 at 19:58
If the monster has a flashback I'll quit watching the series.
Rly.
