The finale just finished here. The last ten minutes are a bit WTF, but I wouldn't call it earth shattering.

I liked the use of flash-forwards, and the episode as a whole was pretty decent.
The schedule for the last three seasons is that each season will be 16 episodes instead of 24, and there will be massive downtime between them (eight months is what I recall).

Aaaaarrrrrgggghhhh!!!!! GUESTS!!! I HAVE GUESTS AND I CAN'T MAKE THEM LEAVE!!!! At least if I still want them to talk to me tomorrow. Good thing I recorded it.
My head is near to exploding with anticipation.

**********SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET********
[SPOILER]
WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED!?
OK, OK. The Others pretty much get raped. The two chicks in the Looking Glass are dead. It isn't Penny's boat. Mikheil is still alive and causes Charlie to drown. Locke's alive and he saved by a much older Walt, then proceeds to kill Naomi but can't kill Jack. Hurley is awesome. Juliet DOES like Jack. Jack loves Kate. Alex learns the truth about her mom. We see the radio tower. And the flashbacks were apparently flash forwards showing Jack's miserable life AFTER he gets off the island? Oh, and Tom gots dead.
A couple things to note -
* It seems to me the "flash backs" show some kind of alternate timeline. Why would I say that? Simple. It seemed pretty clear that in that timeline, Jack's father is alive. He makes reference to him being alive a couple times.
* What the hell's up with Ben? Up until now he was really seeming like a complex, and surely BAD character. For the first half of the episode, it seemed obvious he was lying about Naomi and ordered the execution of Sayid, Bernard, and Jin in cold blood. But then we find out his real order was to make it seem like they were killed? Plus the whole, "It's not Penny's boat" things seem to lend credit to Ben's claims that Naomi's boat finding the island would be a VERY bad thing.
* Locke killed Naomi to stop her from using the phone, but couldn't bring himself to kill Jack. But why did he kill her? Though he's been on a crusade to stop all attempts at escape all season, it seemed to me like he knew more than he was saying. Perhaps Walt clued him in?
* Charlie's death made me sad. He's been such an ass, but the writers did a great job of making him more likeable over the last few episodes.
* The Lost writers have been, since season 1, saying that they have a grand plan for the show. After this season, I completely believe them. A lot of things were tied together and revealed this season. Some might point to some of the other craziness that's popped up, but I honestly don't believe the writers would be stupid enough to come so far, then write themselves into a corner. There's an explanation for everything. The question is how satisfying the explanations will be.

T-Smith pretty much covered all the bases there.

Whole lotta WTF going on in this episode. Not only makes you wonder how they will start next season, but when. The last scene was actually pretty sad, it makes you wonder if the show will just completely change from this point forward. And, we're closer to the end now than we are to the beginning.

I didn't get the impression that Jack's father was still alive. I figured he dug up one of his old prescription pads just in case he couldn't score more painkillers.
The_Raven on 24/5/2007 at 06:05
Renzatic, that spoil tag isn't working.
It was specifically mentioned in the episode when Jack asked the doctor to call the person in question to see if he's drunker than he is.
Fafhrd on 24/5/2007 at 06:06
There's also the moment where he says to the new chief of surgery "Why don't you call my father, and if I'm drunker than he is, you can fire me."
And god damn. Fine fine fine episode. When Hurley drives the van out of the jungle and runs down the one Other, Sayid snaps other Other's neck WHILE TIED UP, and then Sawyer executes Tom, I was all :o and FUCK YEAH and :o all at the same time. And awesome payoff with Hurley giving the "Don't screw with us!" speech on the walkie. And I'm angry Charlie didn't swim out the porthole. He's a small guy! He could fit!
dj_ivocha on 24/5/2007 at 07:17
But you have to consider that his father's coffin was empty when he found it on the island, so maybe he got resurrected by the island. Or something.
Also Hurley =
