"The Brig" I thought was a decent episode. Uneventful, but decent.
Renzatic on 3/5/2007 at 03:38
It was more than decent. I think it solidified Locke as the central character of the plot. Whatever is happening, it's happening mostly to and for him. Everyone else is just along for the trip, supporting him in some esoteric fashion.
Granted that's just my little theory. The next few episodes will show if I'm right or not.

Albeit a self-centered, self-serving central bastard of a character. I did enjoy the way the writers neatly resolved Sawyer & Locke's angst, though. I hate it when they show someone puking onscreen.
I was honestly hoping that Locke had indeed captured Ben and that Sawyer would really kill him. But that would probably have been the end of the series right there, so it was pretty obvious and predictable that it was Locke's dad. God how I hate Ben. I mean, stealing pregnant ladies? Low, very low. It's kind of like something out of a
very warped Monty Python skit.
Juliette. What can I say? OGod how I want to keep hating her, but after last night I'm wondering if maybe my hate isn't a tad misplaced. (I hope you realize how much saying that cost me. Aarrgh!) But I'm still VERY suspicious of whatever she and Jack are up to now. Obviously they have A Plan and it just as obviously has to include a way to foil Ben and the Powers That Be. And I
still don't trust her completely.
*she says stubbornly* :p
The remarks made by the parachute lady & Locke's dad regarding the fact that the wreck of flight 815 was located and all aboard were found dead really intrigued me. I figure Dharma still must have some serious clout and resources to be able to pull that one off. WTF? Is Dharma planning on creating a master race or something? It's gotta be something
BIG. Judging from the old shipwrecks, the Island has always had some sort of, well, power (for lack of a better word). So did Dharma just stumble upon it by accident and then decide to use it to their advantage? I'm still wondering about Ben's remark that he was born on the Island. Obviously his mother was pregnant when she arrived on the Island. Just how long has Dharma been in operation?
And now I'm worried, knowing that at least two of the main characters are slated to die by this season's end. My heart absolutely broke (they showed a rerun of last week's episode last night and I was able to catch some of it) when Sun realized her days were numbered. I'd rather see Desmond bite the big one than Sun. (I mean, he kind of gets on my nerves with all that premonition stuff.) I figure Charlie is a good candidate too, seeing as how the fates seem to have it in for him anyhow. I think it's just too formulaic and predictable for the writers to allude to the fact that since Sun & Kate are both preggers that they'll be the next ones to kick it. It'll be someone we least suspect.
Question: If planes & helicopters malfunction once they're in the vicinity of the Island, how do the Others get that yacht we saw anchored in the distance a few episodes ago to work? Or, come to think of it, the sub?
The time is coming for me to get a life.
Hewer on 3/5/2007 at 15:33
It's my impression that something DHARMA did caused the problem with pregnancies on the island- that was at least part of "the incident". There was a battle of some sort, the Others won (probably not completely, though), and now they're trying to reverse some of the things DHARMA did and return to their own adjenda, whatever that is.
Was Ben's mother pregnant when she came to the island and that's why Ben lived all his life there? I don't know, but I think DHARMA did something that created the need for a quarrantine, and that's the root of the pregnancy problem.
That's why Richard kind of blew off the whole pregnancy issue to Locke. It's important, but not the reason for their existance. And Locke is central to that main reason. That's why he's so special to them.

It's interesting that the writers have repeatedly said NO to the topic of the whether the survivors are in purgatory or hell, but the last few episodes are blatantly pointing in that direction. Is it just an in-joke that the writers are messing with the diehard fans, or are they actually considering going back on their previous statements?
Also...
What is Danielle planning with the dynamite?
What was with Sayid's weird comment about the satellite phone being "more high tech than anything he's every seen?" (or something like that)
Why do the captured survivors (kids, Cindy) seem so resigned to their fate?
What is Locke really up to? (Dia, I don't think he's as bad as you make him out to be, he did tell Sawyer to warn everyone about the imminent Others invasion).
Lost is pretty kickass right now. I may have to go back to watching every episode twice per week again (haven't done this since season two).

What if the plane with all the passengers got copied, sort of like that Voyager episode when the ship is duplicated ((
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadlock_%28Voyager_episode%29) Deadlock) and then the one copy crashes in the ocean, killing everybody, while the other one crashes on the island? Or something. :weird:

What annoyed me the most about this episode was Kate's usual retarded behavior. The put some trust and confidence in her under the one condition that she doesn't tell Jack and what does she do? She immediately runs to Jake and tells him everything right in front of Juliet. :tsktsk: I really hope she's one of the characters to bite the dust at the end of the season since I'm far too tired of her whiny shenanigans.
I hope wasn't the only person to notice that there wasn't any flashbacks in this episode. I hope the show continues with that, with the exception of next week since we know it's going to be Ben's flashbacks, since lately the flashbacks have been pointless and a waste of time, with the exception of the Other's since they offer some new info and background.

I'm pretty sure the satellite phone is the latest technology and something that Sayid wasn't trained for in the republican guard as a communications officer.

Probably what she always does with it, sets traps.

Brainwashing. We already know that they were brainwashing Alex's boyfriend wassisname, so the likelihood that the captured survivors were also brainwashed is quite high.

Well I'm glad they're showing more of the less mundane aspects of the Others, for most of the season they've been pretty tame. Locke's "kill your family" cult-like initation was incredibly creepy, and I hope that this vibe continues on till the end of the season.
