I kinda figured that as well. This episode started to make me think otherwise, but then it went all crazy at the end and made me realize she's a backstabbing ho nanny after all.
That's not to say she's evil or anything. Just that she's so desperate to get off the island and see her sister again, she'll be willing to do anything to achieve that goal.

that was kinda sucky .... at least we got an explaination about why they had been kidnapping people at the beginning, but the "implant" they put in Claire seems a bit far fetched.... that they had the foresight, to put some kind of implant in her , months previous, that they would be able to activate, to make her sick whenever they had someone infiltrate the camp, just so they could manipulate people ? .....
i dunno :weird:
good episode though

I figure the implant probably does some other mysterious plot twist type thing. They're just using the side effects to their advantage.

Although I agree that though the implant thing seemed rather farfetched, it's plausible that Ben, who's already proven just how deviously manipulative he can be, would provide for every and any eventuality. And it's also plausible that the implant has more than one function, but hey implanting that thingy would have required the skills of a brain surgeon, right? I didn't think Jules was that skilled. The fact that Claire's 'episode' was induced and not the result of Juliette's injections is reassuring and means that she wasn't going to suffer the same fate as the rest of Juliette & Ben's test subjects. So maybe Sun has a chance afterall (still don't know about the 1/2 black baby thing - didn't think Sun & Mikey went that far). So the Others want the kids for what? To be used as lab rats when they come of childbearing age? Oh yeah, they're safe alright.
And yes, even though I also agree that Juliette would do anything at this point just to get the hell off the island, her duplicity still amazes me. (And I don't for one minute believe her story that Ethan acted alone in abducting Claire.) But all is not lost imo because Jack's no dull boy and has had a serious glimpse into the way Ben's convoluted mind works. (If I'd been Jack, I would have left a smidgin of the tumor in Ben, just for future control if the need arose. But that's just me of course.) If he hasn't already, Jack'll do the math, realize that Juliette like himself would do just about anything to escape the island and reserve just a modicum of suspicion regarding her motives. I do find it a little hard to believe that Jack, given the Dudley Doright nature of his character, would have just left the island and never given his fellow survivors another thought though.
What I also find hard to believe is that Jules would trust Ben at all at this point. I mean come on! She's not stupid; she knows how unbelievably deceitful and manipulative Ben is. And she doesn't suspect that the reports of her sister's cancer were concocted, that her sister probably was fine all along and this was just another form of manipulation by Ben? And with the sub gone just how does Jules think she's going to get off the island?
Btw, I loved the look Sayid gave Jack when Jack told him Jules was under his protection. I'm just wondering which one will end up making Juliette pay for her deviousness; Sayid or Sawyer. I can hardly wait to see that wench get her comeuppance. Or will Juliette suddenly realize she's in love with Jack, relent and tell him everything wherein they'll devise a plan of escape for all and one that includes wreaking revenge on Ben? Wait a minute; how could she be falling in love with Jack when it's only been a short few months since Ana Lucia wacked Jules' lover? Boy, she sure got over that one in a hurry. Or was that part of Ben's plan too; making Jack fall for Jules?
I'm still wondering just where the Others went, since it's a sure thing Ben would have had a secondary 'safe' base somewhere: back to the other smaller island with the animal pens or just another small island we haven't seen yet? I'm beginning to think that the main island is a hell of a lot bigger than anybody realized. Or the authors just keep making it bigger every season.

juliette seemed distracted when she was listening to ben's instructions near the end of the episode. it's possible that she's not running a recon mission for him, but instead she is defying him and used that mission as a way to get away from him, even if it's just on the other side of the island.
btw, it seems like almost every episode i watch, i see new NPC's that i've never seen before.
also, has anyone else noticed that whenever somebody returns to the beach after being gone to the other side of the island for a long time, they ALWAYS show a shot of Sun and Jin, with Jin being busy doing something like cutting up fish, and Sun lifting her head up, being one of the first few people to notice the returners? it's becoming a "lost cliché"

Good episode, I think season 3 has turned out to be pretty interesting despite some early bumps. You'd have to guess Juliette is in the losties camp for pregnant Sun, but why all the maneuvering? In the past, the Others have just abducted or killed when necessary. Jack is going to be eating some big time crow, unless...he's in on it? Maybe he and Juliette arranged something on the side after Ben talked to Juliette about the plan.
I'm still wondering wtf is up with Locke. He was kind of the fall guy for last season's finale, they can't possibly be gearing up for that again, can they?

How could she possibly know? I don't think Sun has told anyone but her husband (& Kate maybe? Or did I miss something again?). No, I think there are far more ulterior motives going on here. Maybe she's going to artificially inseminate all the women Survivors so she & Ben will have more lab rats. Well, okay, that was a little farfetched.

Awww... I can't see Jack doing anything like that no matter how badly he wants off the island. It would be waaayyy out of character for Mr. DoRight imo. Nawww, he's acting like he wants to trust Jules completely now (the fool) and not giving off any signs that he's got something to hide. Telling Kate to go away and not come back was one thing, but I just can't see Jack turning coat like that. He's too much of a boyscout.

I thought next week's previews showed (very briefly) Locke getting slammed or attacked or knocked down. With his drastic 'now it's every man for himself' change of attitude I'm kinda hoping he does get knocked down a few pegs. He was pretty damn cold to Kate. If Ben promised to show Locke more of the island's secrets then that's all the temptation Locke needed to start acting even more like a total self-centered jerk. I don't like him anymore.
Hmmm; do you think maybe Ben had a hand in having Locke blow up the sub? I mean, it's pretty obvious that Ben doesn't want anyone leaving the island right now, so what if he promised to show the island's secrets to Locke in exchange for Locke blowing up the sub? (Or did this really happen and I missed it again and only caught it on a subconscious level so I think that it's really my own idea?)
Hewer on 13/4/2007 at 16:01
Ben manipulated Locke into blowing up the sub, then caught his interest by showing him his dad. So Ben gets to keep anyone from leaving the island, and gets Locke to stick around. Ben is interested in him because of his 'connection' with the island, which seems to be a mystery to Ben.
In the mini flashback, Ben told Juliet they would see her in a week. Does that mean she's supposed to do whatever she's going to do and rejoin them, or just that she'll check in with them?
And she could be there for Sun's pregnancy I think. Especially if she was pregnant before she came to the island (meaning the baby is not Jin's). If the baby is Jin's, then I don't recall the exact sequence of events, but could Michael have told them about Sun's pregnancy? If not, then maybe Jack?
They would certainly be interested in it regardless, and just that in itself may be enough for Juliette. Now there's no way for her to get off the island, but there is a breakthrough in her research, so why not get away from Ben and go study it? She still gets some secret creepy Ben looks on her face, though. Who knows- maybe she's brainwashed and/or has an 'implant' of some sort too, and the effects wear off after so long, and Ben has to 'reset' them or something.
Bah. Enought second-guessing. I just need to watch and enjoy the show getting better.
