Yeah, me too. Best episode in a while, I thought. Good Sayid action. I definitely could have done without the close-up bullethole stitching, though. I purposely avoid the Animal Planet because of stuff like that. Yuck!
In the flashback, I'm still trying to figure out if Sayid was honestly admitting to torturing that woman, or if he was acting in order to be set free. Naveen's acting was great, but how can you tell if an actor, while acting, is acting or lying? Weird.
I'd almost forgotten how much I hated that black chick, even more than Juliette! I did a most exhaustive happy dance seeing her fate, but only wish it was more painfully drawn out.
Since we can clearly not trust anything "Patchy" said, and since the Dharma video mentions "the hostiles" in a presumably negative context, and Patchy is clearly allied with Klugh (the black chick), are the Others (Ben, Juliette, Klugh, etc.) actually "the hostiles" who have taken over this station from the original Dharma residents?
The ping-pong thing was pretty lame, though, and Locke was disappointingly un-Locke-y. Let's see, we've found all these Dharma manuals explaining in great detail what all this shit is about.... hmmm, think I'll play a game of chess... WTF?
If anyone's interested, here's a translation I found of the Russian exchange between "Patchy" and Mrs. Klugh:
Mrs. Klugh: Mikheil, you know what to do.
Patchy: ...Do we have a chance?
Klugh: We can't risk it... you know the circumstances.
Patchy: ... there IS another way..
Klugh: You know what to do, that is an order.
Patchy: We've GOT ANOTHER WAY!
Klugh: Do it Mikheil!
Patchy: I AM SORRY! (Shoots Klugh)

This island would make a great place for olde worlde pirates to hang about on, and ben's facination with ships, and the patch on the russian guy. So maybe the hostiles/others are decendants of pirates that have been there a very long time, and the dharma initiative turned up later, is the french woman a member of the dhama initative. The rule 'eye for an eye' is a pirate rule.

The rule "eye for an eye" is a biblical rule.
And considering the presence of the wreckage of the Black Rock it's quite possible that the Others are composed of descendants of that ship, and they incorporated other people who crashed or washed up on the island based on their "good people" criteria. They were probably recruiting Dharma Initiative people, and that's what prompted the purge Mikhail was talking about. Hard to have a world saving scientific research initiative when your people keep getting nabbed by a bunch of crazies on the other end of the island.

No dingbats, it's from the Codex Hammurabi - a set of social/civil laws set into a steel plate by the Mesopatmian king named Hammurabi. It predates the Bible...and uh...pirates too.

Actually I'm pretty sure it first appeared in episode 2.3 of Party of Five.

Steel predates the Bible? Come on, now. :wot:

That should be spelled 'stele' meaning 'stela' - it was carved into basalt. Commonly referred to as 'The Stele of Hammurabi'.

The latest episode wasn't so bad, and even the ping pong had a little pleasant comic relief to it. There's no doubt, though, that the magic has dissipated from the show. The cute plot twists thrown in this episode would have been fascinating a season and a half ago, now they just seem like Rumsfeld-style 'last throes' of resistance to viewer apathy.
Still, it's the only thing on TV I bother watching, so I'll be looking forward to the next show.
