I always thought Kubrick should have been chosen to direct a sequel to Caligula.

Conflicted! On one hand we've got ZB arguing the satire case for Clockwork Orange yet he can't accept Starship Troopers on its satirical merits, and there's dethtoll condemning a lot of Kubrick's work to the overrated trash basket but gets his frilly knickers in a twist at the suggestion someone can't like the sacred Blade Runner.
I think the moral of the story is shut the fuck up both of you.

That said, this is the best thread title.

There's satire and there's letting your pretentious bullshit get in the way.
Yah, having a character beat someone to death with a giant penis was just sooo pretentious.
Scots, the difference between Orange and Troopers is that the former actually succeeds at satire by being intelligently written and being selective about what it targets for satirical exaggeration. Troopers, on the other hands, was a broad, profoundly stupidly-written film that attempted to satirize a genre that had already descended into self-parody, thus ending up practically indistinguishable from what it was supposedly satirizing.
Or to contrast with RoboCop, Verhoeven's
successful satire:
* RoboCop: Corporate politics + sci-fi ultra-violence = satire
* Starship Troopers: Interstellar war + sci-fi ultra-violence = par for the course

Looks like you still haven't quite hosed all the stupid off.
If you'd pay attention, you'd notice that the Starship Troopers debate gets shorter every year. Clearly it's undergoing radioactive decay.

2001.
Rest are
Dr. Strangelove (a personal favourite) and
Full Metal Jacket.
So
The Shining and
Spartacus are shitty movies now? Good to know.

Lost Kubrick Film (aka Porntacus: Dethtoll Strikes Back)
:D:D
PS: To say something meaningful: The Shining is probably my most favorite movie, not just by SC but overall. I generally prefer deeper stuff, but this thing charms me by its atmosphere.

The Shining? Sorry, but the Simpsons parody of it was better.
