And I thought Balmora is bad enough. I'm completely lost. Don't know where to go, don't know where I should go. And I almost got killed...
...in the sewers by some eff'ing orc. Damn he's tough. I prolly need to level up more.
I'm thinking of going to Ald'ruhn first to gain some experience and better equipments. Is Ald'rhun part of the main quest?

At some point it will be, I believe. You'll also have other people point you there at some point. And Vivec IS huge. And in regards to your semispoiler:
Yep, some of the sewer guys are VERY tough. In fact, they're guarding Daedric shrines, with even MORE nasty guys inside. Who might even summon even MORE nasty guys. So walk very carefully and try not to annoy anyone in the sewers...
I think your under Saint Delyn... there is a daedric shrine in the underworks there with orcs in bonemold armor worshipping it. Just use alumsivi intervention or something...

You become VERY familiar with Vivec if you play through the quests...

You get used to the city;
First: all cantons are built up the same way (Waistworks, Canalworks (to be accessed mainly through Waistworks) and the Plaza (or Arena) ). Only the Foreign Quarters have two Waistworks and a Plaza.
The last thing you'll learn will be at which level two cantons are connected with a bridge (so you don't have to run up and down all the time)
And: use your map that came with the game (ingame map should also do it) - there you also have the cantons drawn.

Hi,
Use the in-game map (read the exits to find out where you are), the paper map (to find out where all the different cantons are) and the compass and you should have no trouble finding your way around.
Remember, you can ask people for the locations of major services etc if you forget.
