My laptop returned from Germany.
First thing I noticed was that the package was different. I lost the original package where the laptop was when I bought it.
The second thing I noticed was that they didn't do anything to the hardware. They reflashed the bios, updated it and tested that it works. They say that the memory problem is gone, but I can't check it out myself as I don't know how to do that in Windows XP.
That leads to the third thing I noticed: They had downgraded my Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows XP! Great! Just perfect! I contacted them about this and they told me to print a form that they would send to me, fill it out and then fax it back to them. I don't own a fax, I don't know anyone who does. Eventually I sent them the information they needed via email. Now I'll just have to wait for two weeks for the Vista CD/DVD. :p

WTF??!?!?!? I have a really slick, basic laptop from Acer. An Aspire 3680. I love it. It originally had Vista installed, and I called them up and they allowed me to reformat and install my own XP OS w/out destroying the warranty!!!! Anytime, I had an issue they fixed it within a week, and when I had to send it in to them for a hardware problem, I got it fixed completely and promptly. They will even flat out replace it w/an equivalent current model if it is a serious hardware issue and not in their best interest to repair. Sorry you had a shitty exerience w/them. I love Acer.

Surely you mean upgraded?

All my backups are configured to work with Vista. XP has a couple of updates which never get installed and Vista has a few features I like. Getting my
wireless network running on this machine took me half a day. I managed to setup my home network so that I could transfer files between my laptop and my other XP computer, but no matter what, I couldn't get my laptop to connect to the net through the older machine (I did manage to do this with Vista).
It's a downgrade for me.

True enough, networking has always been a pain for some reason.

I finally managed to update my computer to Vista, I installed every program that I need (F-Secure, Open Office, Messenger, etc) and I decided to make a backup dvd, since my old ones refused to work. However, it turns out that I can't make restore DVD's anymore with acer eRecovery. Every time I try to make a backup DVD a Microsoft .NET Framework error appears.
Also, for some reason, Windows Live Messenger refuses to work unless I give it full rights to mess with my computer. :nono:
I have now reinstalled everything for the third time. The hidden partition in C is for an XP computer and I believe the bios is configured to XP and that is causing the problems. Ofcourse, I could be completely wrong as I know nothing about laptops or about bios. It seems I'm forced to ask acer for their help to get this computer running again. *Very heavy sigh* :( :nono:
