I'm on Level 2, ready to destroy the computer nodes (#41 in ICE Breaker Book). All of a sudden, when I try to move Akiro Foley, my character (I think that's his name) he slides around like he's on ice and I can't stop him. As a result I'm unable to control him so he will go exactly where I want him to go, which has been the case until now. Does this have something to do with where I am, near the computer nodes; or, what else could it be?
Earlier I jacked into Cyberspace, #41 and upgraded to pulser v.3 and got a few other items. But, couldn't make it to the last room, even after a dozen tries. If I don't go back and try to upgrade further, will it hurt me later on in the game?
Any and all advice will be appreciated.
Taking a look at recent messages, it looks like I have a monopoly when it comes to asking questions; and I sure am thankful for the help I've been getting.

'Akiro Foley'? Where the hell did you get that idea from? If I remember correctly, your character, known in the game as 'Employee 2-4601', is called 'James Finn'. People usually just refer to him as 'Hacker'.
Anyway, are you sure that you don't have the Booster enabled? That could explain your difficulty in keeping the Hacker still. There's no known problem with the CPU nodes room, as far as I'm concerned.
Regarding the cyberspace issue, why aren't you able to reach the final 5th room? Are you taking too long to get there and being kicked out? Are you colliding with too many mines along the way? The final room contains two interesting items: a Group-4 access card, and the Drill v1 software. The Drill will allow you to destroy the ICE protection around some objects in cyberspace, allowing you to pick them up. You'll be able to get this software in several other places (e.g., Drill v2 is available on the first room of the Reactor level cyberspace). As for the Group-4 access card, it will allow you to open a certain door and get a few goodies, but it isn't critical for the game, because you can also reach that same space via the teleporter if you have the SCI access card (the most interesting thing you'll get is an ENG card, which is useful in the Reactor level).
P.S.- I deleted your other thread, as it was redundant. If you need to add something to a question you've just made in a new thread, it's better to edit that thread, rather than posting a new one.

Couldn't you rename your character in SS1?
D'Arcy on 14/12/2007 at 15:29
You can give it a name, but judging from pukey123's words I believe that he thinks that 'Akiro Foley' is the characters real name.

Whenever I replay SS1, the main bug for me is that the controller becomes unbound every so often and my avatar goes spinning in circles or just takes off, requiring a game reset.
Is that what's happening for you?

Hi D'Arcy: First off, the name Akiro Foley is found on page 1 of the Bernie Yee strategy guide. According to this guide he is/was a world famous cyberspace jockey. And was caught in a raid on MalikComp; after which he was subjected to the neural transplant. Suffice it to say I bow to your superior knowledge and henceforth my character is "hacker". By the way, where did you get the identity Employe 1-4601 and James Finn?
My inability in getting to the 5th room, is a function of my ineptness, I guess. I get there and immediately after my integrity fails and I'm back in the real world. I have finished everything else on this level and will go back to this particular terminal and keep on trying to get the balance of goodies. I try to rush through the intermediate rooms and do my best in avoiding mines, etc. My integrity is about 50% the moment I enter the final room and then the remainder disappears in one hell of a hurry. Also I think I missed some stuff in the 3rd and 4th rooms because I'm in such a hurry to get to the last room. Will keep trying. I sure didn't deliberately turn on the Booster but will check it.
Thanks for telling me what to look for now and in a later cyberspace.
Finally D'Arcy, your comment about deleting my thread. Don't know exactly what I did. Should this thread have been an "edited version" of one of my earlier messages?

No, my character just seems to glide/slide across the surface and goes well beyond where I want him to go. D'Arcy thinks I may have the Booster on, which I will check later today. pukey

Pukey, the hacker is known in-game and via his own messages only as 'Employee 2-4601' - see his reminder note about the code to the storage room beside his recovery bed for example. It's a reference, I believe, to Valjean's prisoner number in Les Misérables.
As for what you did, you may have pressed 'Post' then tried to edit your message again by pressing 'back', as you ended up with two threads rather than one.

Regarding the deleted thread: your last two threads were asking the same question. So, no need to keep them both.
You get the 'Employee 2-4601' information right from the start. The first e-mail message you receive from Rebecca Lansing (check your data reader for e-mails; the message is 'Rebecca-1') refers to you that way. Plus, that log that you recorded yourself, which you find in that first closet right after waking up from the healing coma, is also signed as '#2-4601'.
The 'James Finn' information actually comes from another Origin game, Wing Commander 3. In the user manual, there are spoof adverts for something called 'HoloVids', one of them named 'Hail SHODAN', and this is its description:
<i>(
http://wingcommander.by.ru/VS/Streak44.html) "Hail SHODAN radiates with cyberpunk action and the good looks of Clint Mason. After streetwise hacker James Finn (Mason) accepts the challenge to punch deck into Citadel research station, he unknowingly removes the logic systems behind the station's artificial intelligence. Finn finds himself trapped in a steel jungle with nothing but his good looks and a few electro-magnetic grenades. The furious pace of this epic game-based HoloVid will send you reeling through the aisles ... the ending will astonish you.(2.24 hours)***"</i>
Judging from your description, I believe that what is happening in cyberspace is that you're taking too long in there, and therefore being kicked out as the time runs out. Pay attention to the time counter. If you have to, explore the cyberspace in multiple attempts, clearing one room at the time. The next time, just rush through the already cleaned out rooms to the next one you need to explore (you can use the Space Bar to increase your speed while moving in cyberspace).

D'Arcy, you are right, as usual. My Booster was "on" and I never noticed it. Thanks again for keeping me on the straight and narrow; and for the information about Employe 2-4601, James Finn, et al. I'll recheck the logs and e mail as you suggest. Finally, I'm determined to get the items from the rooms that I missed. Normally I rush through but apparently not fast enough. I had this happen a time before and finally made it all the way through. I'll do it again by golly. pukey
