youll have the opportunity to tell people you're either from california or from texas
so either you enjoy being called a fag and having your ass slapped by other men or you enjoy being a man's man and pissing off hippies

They're both too hot for my taste, but LA has so much smog that I couldn't bear to live there. If you're remotely sensitive to air quality you should avoid it like the plague.

True, I will admit that I don't have first hand experience with LA's nightlife, my opinion is formed by one guy I know raving about LA while two others said they didn't like what Dallas offered.

Cali is on the verge of legalising pot... how is this even a question? :D

I don't know jackshit about either place personally but I've
heard LA is a fucking hole and Dallas is awesome.
Ha ha that's exactly what I was going to say. :cheeky:

I've also heard, from multiple sources, that LA is a hole.
Having spent only a few days of my life in Texas I saw mainly these things:
* Ten Gallon Hats
* Steaks
* Really Large Dudes with Really Large Trucks
* Sun

To be fair, I think he's comparing the two places I'd least like to live in the USA*
*I recognize that Dallas beats Houston, but conservative Texas (i.e. not Austin) in general seems pretty freaky.

Stick to Dallas, you'll be too poor and unsophisticated to enjoy L.A. properly.

Just stay away from the crazy evangelicals and you'll be fine, as long as you like big pickup trucks and wear blue jeans.

I actually agree with RBJ on this one. Not because of sophistication (liquor is liquor, and bar flys are bar flys), but because of money.To have a good time in a big city, you need a salary large enough to let you isolate yourself from many of the negative aspects of living in a big city.
A software engineer's salary is not that salary.
Another thing to consider is exactly where in the city your job would be. In any metropolis there's a pretty big difference between working downtown and working in the suburban business districts that typically surround a big city. If I had a say in the matter, there's no way I'd take a job in downtown Atlanta (my closest metropolis), whereas a job up in Marietta or Buckhead might be somewhat enjoyable.

As ably said by someone who's never been on the right side of the velvet rope.
Good luck getting into Skybar.
