Thread hijack!
My favourite Hitchcock's are To Catch A Thief and North By NorthWest. Cary Grant ownz, fool! Both movies have great settings, tense atmosphere and just a sprinkling of humour.
However Jimmy is very good as well. Rear Window is also a very nice piece of work which is very similar to Rope in that it is almost entire shot on one set (in one room).
Of all the Hitchcock's I have seen, the most amazing sequence has to be in Vertigo where Jimmy follows Kim Novak for ~20 minutes and not a single word is spoken. Try doing that in a modern movie and the audience will begin to nod off.

I never saw many of the Cary Grant Hitchcocks actually, but I intensely disliked Rear Window as a movie, predictable and boring, plus the love interest never really held any weight in my opinion.
Vertigo is amazing, right up there with Psycho. I haven't seen it in years either.

Ack, it isn't "Another Country" :( It might be one of those made-for-TV movies, making it harder to track down. I'm sure it was always shown on ITV, late at night.
If only I could remember who was in it! :eww:
The only things I remember is a suicide, and both the opening and closing titles were displayed over a shot of the school, (which was a painting, IIRC), and the music was a hymn.
Please keep those suggestions coming. :cheeky: I gotta find this bloody movie, it's driving me crackers!

Rope is easily my favourite Hitchcock; I love
Psycho but something about the technical nature of the way they filmed
Rope and the seedy, pseudo-sexual undertones really works for me as being a thematically more complex movie. God, now I need to watch it again.
Plus, Jimmy Stewart fucking owns.
I'm not too fond of 'Rope' myself. It had its moments but the way in which it was shot was more gimmicky than actually effective. The transitions they had to use (usually zooming into someones coat) in order to try and maintain the 'one take' feel (since they couldn't film 2 hours straight) were distracting. Anytime a film technique calls attention to itself is bad IMO.
That said the plot was good, the sexual undertones interesting and of course Jimmy Stewart owns.
My personal favs are Notorious(my all time fav Hitchcock), Vertigo (the obvious choice, particularly love the score), The 39 Steps (an oldie but a goldie) and The Lady Vanishes (prob the funniest one, either that or North by Northwest).
The worst would be The Birds. It had a couple of great sequences but the acting was horrendous.

Gah, The Man Who Knows Too Much (remake) is probably my favorite. Cary Grant's Hitch movies were great, but Stewart and Hitch just had killer chemistry(on and of set).

Favourite Hitchcock's of mine, are Psycho and Frenzy.

I seen all but 2 of Hitch's films. One is Frenzy. How is it? Also, I wish he had made a couple more in the vein of 'The Trouble w/Harry'.:D

Well, you're missing out on a great movie!
It's got some great camera work, and never gets dull! :D
