Looking for techno music... - by the_grip

This is so far out of my normal genre of music that I'm not sure where to start looking, so here goes my question from a complete noob in the area.
I'm looking for what I'd describe as edgy/naughty techno for lack of better terms. Something one would hear at Tao Beach in Las Vegas, not on the safe local Top 40 stations around the country.
Any suggestions are appreciated :)

Breakfast in Vegas by Praga Khan is amusing :D
And has a naughty edge to it.

Just have to ask, do you mean techno as in the genre or just electronic dance music with high tempo?
henke on 20/10/2010 at 19:35
Since he's not familiar with the genre I'd guess he means electronic music in general.
But naughty.
this is what I'm gonna suggest: (

Does anybody know what techno actually is?
(I don't)

Kuuso, henke's right, I don't know the difference really. Let's go with both or whatever else you all feel my fall into the ballpark.
Duck, great, thanks!
Thanks for the recs, please keep 'em coming!
p.s. henke I can't see youtube at work (it's blocked), but a quick google led me to Electric Six, awesome
henke on 20/10/2010 at 19:46
Electric Six is really more Dance-Punkish. But they do have that one awesome song about the power of techno: "Synthesizer".
the_grip on 20/10/2010 at 20:02
ah... I thought your link was pointing to the song Synthesizer
Briareos, thanks but can't see youtube until this evening.

It's fairly hard to define (No!) But mostly it seems to refer to the more poppy and mainstream sound. That definition doesn't really help if it was never really mainstream where you are, I know. But most of the leading famous tunes seem to come from the old days, before endless sub genres formed.
However... a lot of the old tunes I would have labelled Techno, fairly unambiguously, I've also seen called Rave in recent years or I'd also recognise as House. Basically the only band I've seen called Techno consistently is (

And this is probably no help at all.
