Jim Norton, although his work on Opie and Anthony is funnier.

Search on Youtube if you really want to give him a chance
Well I did this and what is going on on TV cuz they always have lame stuff of his on but the stuff I found on Youtube was pretty funny. The irony never came across in the stuff I'd seen prior.

Lil Jimmy Norton, of course, aaaannnd Rich Vos. I saw Vos live during one of Virus Tours (the year before the last one, actually, when it came to Michigan), and no one could work a crowd quite like him.
I agree with RJB about Robin Williams--he was considered "fresh" in the 80s, but truly there wasn't much to his material if you removed all the zany antics. Much like Dane Cook.

Re-echoing Louis C. K. earlier mentioned, and Patton Oswalt. The latter's got a lot of the energy Sam Kineson once had, but with a modern nerdiness I cotton a bit more to. The Comedians of Comedy should still be freely available on Netflix streaming, the three dudes on that are quite good.
Slightly older school: I've never watched much Lenny Bruce or Richard Pryor, something I will remedy in the near future. Paul Mooney scares the shit out of me, but he's also great.
Also, I am the only person on the internet who has never found anything funny about Mitch Hedberg.
Gonna YouTube some early Jim Carey in a few minutes. Oh, those innocent brick wall times.

No mention of Lewis Black yet? I like his angry old man style. Ricky Gervais is also good from what I've seen. I watched his Animals act on YouTube and it was great, especially the part where he critiques the Bible like it was some book that came out last year.

Ricky's alright but he doesn't like fatties, does he?
