I'm looking for the game Aquanox the first one by J Wood (I think). If anyone has a copy and is looking for an older game, I have a handful I'll be willing to trade.
PM me if you have it and are interested in trading.

If you're into game trading, check out (
www.gametz.com). It's been a great resource for me - nice community, nice website.

shouldn't this be in the General Gaming section?

It is, but some don't go there.

If you haven't played it already, can I recommend you also try to pick up Archimedean Dynasty, which was the precursor to the Aquanox series? Despite being much older, I think it's actually a better game. It has much better atmosphere, you really get the feeling that people are struggling to survive in tin cans at the bottom of the sea, and you're spared the hideous voice acting. The mechanics of combat are somewhat different, as eventually get turrets on your ship that can, with the right software, fire independently, rather than having to settle for the rather bizarre FPS-style weapon switching in Aquanox. You also care a lot more about things such as how much noise you're making. You can trade items between stations to earn cash, and there's rather more to do by way of side missions.
The only major criticism of AD I have is that a few of the missions are weirdly scripted or not very well explained, and are thus sometimes easy to fail without really being sure what you did wrong.

But while Archimedean Dynasty was a complex, mission-based simulation with trading and privateering, AquaNox is an arcade-style action game that abandons or greatly simplifies those elements. Combat is fast paced and more similar in style to Quake's, or even a rail shooter's, than it is to the more tactical battles in other underwater sims.
It's disappointing that the developers opted to make gameplay so simplistic when the setting offers so many interesting possibilities.
The game runs in DOS, so you'll need to do some VESA jiggerypokery to get in to run in XP.

Sounds interesting. If I come across it I'll check it out. I have a W98 backup system that runs most DOS games.
Thanks for the info.
I don't care much for shooters, but there are a few (Aquanox Revslation, Starwars racer), that are a kick now and then.

From memory this (aquanox) was bundled with a lot of video cards back in the day (probably nVidia, I can't remember).
If people still hang on to those things they might still have it, though the cards be long gone. I tend to forget I've got those disks lying around. Others might be the same (though I haven't got aquanox unfortunately)
