I'm spending my holidays in eastern europe and this morning on the hungarian tv channel Duna, there was the most beautiful medieval animated film I've ever seen. Each scene looked as if it was hand-painted on a canvas. There were kings and knights and dark forests and executioners and maidens, etc. etc.
I don't speak hungarian, but fortunately there was not much dialogue. From what I gathered, I was some sort of fary-tale about knights, and I think there was a plague at the end of the film. Unfortunately, I was unable to grasp anything regarding the name of the movie.
All I was able to not was that it was released in 1984, and some guy called Janos (probably the equivalent of George) worked on, perhaps being the director. Can anyone help me find this wonderful animated film?
I'm assuming people of Hungarian (?) origin might be familiar with this movie, to tell the truth I'm unsure if it is of Hungarian origin at all.
Many thanks and seasons greetings!

Very nice, thanks. I'm having a look at them now.
But both of these arn't what I've seen. Indeed, the first isn't set in the right era, and the second is much too cartoony. The movie I saw was much less 'cartoony'... And I really must stress that the images were very unique in style, not disney like at all.

Psychedelic birthing sequence for the win!
I'm also disturbed at the fact that that one sequence is more disturbing than everything in the movie version of The Wall put together.
