Okay so not MM or Modest Mouse, but have you ever heard (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tOpidgBVa5s) Sleep's Dopesmoker a.k.a. Jerusalem? I actually think the song/album is incredible.

and aww shit if we are going that route then I will stand by Sleep and give these two from High on Fire (Pike's latest band, awesome as shit I saw them a couple years ago and still remember every minute):
(
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89h-X-tZa_w) Newer Single, Rumors of War
(
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOQ9MiEsaz4) Older Single, Devilution
I love each of their albums, but these are probably a little more accessible if someone hasn't heard them before. Devilution being the most accessible of the two. HoF is one of the most original bands/sounds I've heard in a long time, and I don't particularly like doom metal (even though they really aren't).

Damn you guys came through like hell.
And yeah, I know Zylon. For some reason chrome's spellchecker doesn't seem to be particularly keen on checking textboxes. I knew it was wrong but didn't really give a shit.
Going to get working on that list, thanks everyone :)

Nine Inch Nails' Ghosts album is full of nice melancholy instrumentals. I don't think you'd call them long and droning though.
The Quake soundtrack (also by NIN) is full of long droning tracks.
Great suggestions both. I have these and have listened to ghosts a lot. I was wanting to find long songs though, and I've listened the album out for the moment ;)

They're stoner sludge. Sludge being a mixture of doom and hardcore punk, for those who don't know.
I get irritated at people who think all doom is drone, 'cuz bands like HoF fucking destroy.

I'd never heard of these guys until this week, but I was intrigued by the fact that their new album is a
triple album so I spent a bit too much money on the record and am now in the process of downloading the mp3 version. I guess it's too late now, but is it any good?

I only recently came across Oneida myself when I was trawling through Jagjaguwar's artist list, and I haven't had the opportunity to get any of their albums myself. I dug the sample they had up for (
http://www.scjag.com/mp3/jag/PTWedit.mp3) Preteen Weaponry, and that's the first thing I thought of when the call for droning, repetitious rock went out.
The stuff I've heard from Rated O sounds pretty good, though a couple of the tracks are a bit noisier than I care for.

Ton you wonderful bastard.
Oneida is one of my favorite bands and they have been for quite a long time. I actually just saw them last weekend in Medford, MA while they're touring for Rated O.
Rated O is probably the best introduction to Oneida, and it's their 12th album.... Even still there are some hiccups, but that's come to be one of the endearing qualities to me about Oneida is that there are always a couple of songs that are just like What the fuck guys, why would you do something like that, I know you're better than this.
Although Happy New Year, which the song from Ton's link is from that album also is rather solid.
Either way I can only give the highest :thumb: for the O if you want loop-prog-rock. And go see 'em live if you can the drummer is fantastic.

Ministry do a good line in this sort of thing, from 'Scarecrow' on psalm 69 to, I think, pretty much all of Filth Pig.
