Well, there was sausages, tarts, street dancing and opera. Or there would have been if we hadn't better things to do.

Well after the usual shoe-X-raying and liquid-bagging nonsense I arrived in London without a hitch after a very pleasant flight. Then, in spite of having plenty of time ahead to make the meet, I immediately proceeded to forget that Londoners don't have a metro service worthy of a civilized world, but this monstrous maze they call the Tube, and managed to be late.
After some texting frenzy to <s>build hype</s>ask for patience, I finally emerged of the Holborn tube station, where I was quickly found by N'Al and Jay.
We immediately left the premises on a quest for a pub, the aforementioned Shakespeare Head. Many a french fries and sausages were consumed there, along with a few (half)pints of non-Guiness beer.
After tending to thirst and hunger, we then departed from this fine establishment to look for... more food and drinks, wandering in the general direction of Covent Garden.

I must say I loved Covent Garden. With the night falling and the illuminations it looked like a postcard. Beautiful place it is. Freezing cold too. Loved it. :)
(Obviously, my pic is not the postcard I had in mind...)
I proposed to look for a place with sweet munchables we could use as desserts. We found such a place, and as we discussed whether we would stay or not, I re-joined the queue which we had inadvertently left during our deliberations. This deeply offended Jay who considered it bona-fide queue-jumping. Fortunately for me, the old lady who followed us confirmed we had arrived before and were entitled to our place in the queue, and I kept my honour bright.
Then we took more pics as we feasted on tarts and hot chocolate/coffee.

http://stuff.freylia.net/uk2008/P1030838.jpgWe talked of various things, gaming, movies and music, and the various degrees of nerdiness attained by our respective selves. Among other things, I thought that the place was beautifully lit, what with these blue light ribbons thingies hanging from the ceiling.
Inline Image:
http://stuff.freylia.net/uk2008/P1030839.jpgCylon spies are amongst us.
The ribbon's lights lit up from the top down and conversely, which prompted me to remark it was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike the Cylon headlamps.
True story, the exact second I said that, the lights turned red, making it look
exactly like Cylon stuff. Creepy. They're among us, folks, I tell you.
The place was cool but it was also cold, so we left, not without listening to some Michael Jackson-backed street artist doing a dance that was not quite recognizable. On the way out we also heard opera but arrived at the scene after it finished and couldn't see a thing.
So we did what TTLGers do best: look for a pub. And a pub we found.
And this time, Guiness was on the agenda. Followed by more beer. N'Al had to go some place afterwards so after hanging out for a while, we ended it there. Jay and I went back through Covent Garden to the Tube station, and he went his way and I went mine.
Thus endeth the moot.

London TTLG meet 22 Nov
A Drama in Three Acts
The Abridged Version
ACT I
Raph (a dirty Frenchman), N'Al (a stupid Hun) and jay (the only true British gent in the group) enter the Shakespeare's Head (a typical English pub) stage right. The group slowly make their way towards the bar, chatting as they do. A Barman slides along the bar to meet them.
Barman: "What can I do for you gents?"
Raph and N'Al (in unison): "A pint of Guinness, please!"
Barman: "I'm sorry, we don't have Guinness here."
A look of dissapointment crosses raph and N'Al's faces.
Jay (muttering under his breath): "Guinness's shit anyway."
Upon hearing this, raph and N'Al's look of dissapointment quickly turns to flabbergastedness.*
ACT II
Some time later, the group are in Covent Garden, just about to sit down to enjoy a cup of coffee and some dessert. The place is pretty packed, with lots of people milling about and a host of street artists trying to entertain the crowd. The sound of music can be heard in the background; the song is QUITE CLEARLY Billie Jean by Michael Jackson.
Raph: "Is that Michael Jackson?"
Jay and N'Al look at him in utter disbelief (I mean, really, did he have to ask?)
ACT III
Some time later again, the group have once again found their way into a pub; this time on the Strand. This time, raph and N'Al are nursing a pint of their coveted Guinness. The conversation, perhaps inevitably, turns to gaming (this may have been prompted by N'Al asking raph whether he went "Please be full of hay! Please be full of hay!" on his recent sky-diving adventures in the US).
N'Al: "The only Thief game I ever completed - twice - is Deadly Shadows."
Jay and raph (in unison): "What?"
N'Al: "Yep. I played Thief Gold up to some level with four Mage Towers, never even touched Thief 2, but I have completed Thief 3."
Jay and raph (in unison): "WHAT!?!"
N'Al: "On the Xbox, no less."
A look of utter horror, disgust, and a slight hint of homicidal rage crosses jay's and raph's faces.
THE END
