Yeah, that's probably it -I keep forgetting that the shades in my room are remarkably effective and will block out pretty much all light if I don't close them before I hit the sack. Whoops.

That was good! Always nice to meet interesting people. I take it everyone didn't get stabbed up on the way home, always a bonus. We should have some kind of movie/music appreciation night again, I reckon - I'll check it if there's any interesting gigs or anything coming up - as far as people's tastes run, I got kind of doomish metal, folk and blues, is that broadly correct? Also, Ostriig will have to tell me all about the history of Romania again, because I was really annoyed to find I can't remember anything about it today.
Also, fingernail - dude I was thinking of when you said 'donovan' was infamous glam-clusterfuck (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jobriath) Jobriath. I have no idea why that guy popped into my head upon hearing the word 'Donovan', but there you go. Brains are wierd.

I'm actually more into rock/"alternative" (whatever the fuck that is) than anything else - I don't know why I was rambling on about folk music - but I'm able to appreciate at least some instances of most genres (basically, I love most everything Yoko Kanno does, which is pretty much every genre under the sun).

Sweet. I'm all about rock/alternative. Yoko Kanno freaks me out though, stuff i've heard is like slo-mo cibo matto

I'm partial to heavy metal, but most other types of metal or rock will do. Blues and folk are usually good with me, too. As for the history bit, yeah, if you're interested, sure thing. It's not that often that I get to retread those subjects. While we're going over the stuff from yesterday, offer's still on the table if you want me to have a look at that piece of software sometime, let me know.

I'll echo the sentiments - jolly nice to find you all were not murderous lunatics and I enjoyed the banter. First Saturday night pint where I feel I learned something!
Definitely up for a gig or movie thing - I like the alternative Rock; just so long as we don't end up going to X Factor's live audition show...

I checked out Jobriath. Pretty tragic in many ways, but also interesting. Some of the costumes he was wearing in one video looked rather like what Bowie would later wear in Ashes to Ashes... and the naked torso cover art isn't a million miles away from Diamond Dogs either, although it could probably be said that they were just trying to second-guess Bowie.
On the other hand, it is remarkable just how gay they marketed him for the time. Bowie wasn't a million miles away, stylistically, but I think it's fair to say that the US were more willing to overlook his supposed bisexuality than Jobriath's screaming-queer "I'm a fairy!" media-blitz. From the sounds of it, it was more a case of hype-backlash than genuine homophobia, although it does sound like that played a part too. However, Bowie's music is better.
EDIT: well that was a load of waffle. Alternative Rock is my medium of choice. However, I have been watching X Factor too...
