You folks want, we can go to the natural history museum and I can tell you some boring crap about dinosaurs for a bit (although the NHM's dinosaur selection is pretty fucking balls, to be honest. They do have a full-on glyptodont, though, and they are amazing). I have a mate who works at the science museum as well, I could see if he know's any exciting things going on. Then we could go the pub. Thats important.

this. can we. can we?!?
(only can we do it next year - which is soon - 'cos I'm cycling across Europe pretty much until then - I'll wave on Saturday though, I'll be wooshing past London on a practice ride.)

Somebody bring a camera - mine is unfortunately broken.
There will be antics.

I'm bringing a pretty good camera which I have sadly put to little to no use in London mostly out of forgetfulness.
Worth noting that (from a combination of overly caffeinated migraine medication and a sick desire to play a complete game of chess online starting at 2 in the morning) I did not get to sleep till a bit after 4 this morning, so I might be a little wacked.

Okay, if it's cold (which it likely will be) I will be wearing an old grey Xbox sweater (RETRO LOGO rather than the 360 one) to show just how awesome I am.

Ok, well the bad part is I've woken up with one of the worse hangovers of recent weeks. Should maybe have eaten more than just a sandwich before embarking on such an epic manoueveur. The good part is, it was cool to meet you guys and put faces to the names. And what faces they were!
The Jubilee line having left me in the lurch for yet another weekend, I got off the Bakerloo at Piccadilly Circus, deciding to walk the last five minutes to Leicester Square. I was just crossing over to the steak house when a shaven-headed, goatee'd countenance caught my eye, and I thought "I've seen that face before"... and indeed I was not much mistaken, recalling pictures of the Milton Keynes meet... and that is how I met Felix (Ostriig). We stuck around on the corner waiting to see how or if we might recognise any of the others.
A text message from Vivian announced that he was in the vicinity, but as we cast our gaze around, I overheard the very same message being read aloud by none other than Alastair (Al_B) and Dylan (Aerothorn) who had obviously also just met.
The four of us then convened to await the arrival of Vivian... and news was passed that thefonz would only be able to come an hour or so after.
After what seemed like an age (not really), Vivian (Vivian) finally made his appearance, and introduced himself to the group. Things were going relatively smoothly, but we were still standing on a corner outside a steak house.
Beer was needed, and cheap. So, using my patented local knowledge that would later prove to be so fatal, we headed to the Lyceum on the Strand, a Samuel Smiths pub, where we also managed to get seats.
The beer was cheap, and the talk was cheaper, and so it went on for a while until we were joined by the man himself, Calum (thefonz). And then it carried on in much the same vein. Felix's prime concern seemed to be whiskey, and it wasn't long before Scotland's finest (or Yorkshire's finest in this case) joined the cocktail of alcohol in my stomach that would later prove to be so fatal.
The conversation ran the gamut of nerd/gamer topics, from game design, C++/C#/.NET whatever (Alastair and Felix at one point seemed to hold a two-man programming conference), films (Alien(s), Watchmen etc., the films of Wes Anderson which Dylan held a seminar on (but I think only Vivian was paying attention), not to mention the music of Loudon Wainwright III and Weird Al), TTLG itself as well as various topics surrounding the internet and INTERNET MEN, crocodiles galloping courtesy of Vivian, Calum demonstrating that no, perhaps not all bankers are absolute wankers, and so on and so forth.
Now, a time came when Calum had to leave and I was obliged to attend a birthday party up the road at "Ain't Nothing But the Blues" in Soho, to which, like fools, the remaining four followed me... a brisk ten minute walk later... it is a tiny bar, and almost always packed with people trying to get a line of sight to the band playing at the back. Dylan clearly had had enough of such an atmosphere after a short while and called it a night, and after a while Felix and Alastair both had trains to make so the group dispersed. I stayed for another drink with Vivian and then we left and that was that.
So yeah, it was cool to meet you all in the flesh and would be fun to do it again. Who's got the photos?
I woke up this morning, and went back to bed.
Ostriig on 8/11/2009 at 17:54
fuck yeah chippendales watch out the ttlg internet men are coming you sissies
Alastair should have some more photos, too. It was good fun in my book, and I'm definitely looking forward to a repeat!
Regarding the sleeping thing - I think the general rule of the thumb is that if you sleep for more than 9 hours you've got a pretty good chance of waking up feeling tired. It does kinda work that way with me, at least
