Most lockers and wooden doors can be hacked open with a sword anyway.

Well don´t bather playing the game. It´s the crappiest game ever made! I totally hate it. I got it for all it´s splendid reviews and how it´s the "thinking mans fps". What a bullshit. Crappy level design, oh here are some crates, o here are 100 more here is another pile of crates so you can take a alternate route how groundbreaking :wot: :wot: We give this game a 99 % score because you can finish the game in several ways. And oh yeah, we like system shock 2 so much so we take their zombie/monkey AI and put it in our future elite police core. Hey they are so good we only need one every square mile and want need any assistance whatsoever!!!
Play Thief 2 or System Shock 2 instead, much better.

Well, each to their own and all, and I can understand some people viewing Deus Ex as being merely "okay" as opposed to "truly great", but
"crappiest game ever made"
is just bollocks. Piss off, and come back when you have something constructive to say.
sergeantgiggles on 20/10/2002 at 23:53
seriously though, wasnt anyone surprised by how stupid the ai was compared to something like half-life? Just because you are wearing black they cant see you until youre right in front of them? Not a whole lot of teamwork either.
oqvist on 21/10/2002 at 00:04
I am serious when I am saying that it is the worst game I have ever played, I guess pick up express 2 can count also but that is just merchandice shit. I believe in immersion when playing games and Deus Ex just doesn´t hack it. The game are far from okay IMO.
But you are right I have nothing good to say about Deus Ex, nothing is new about it. That multiple ending thing is just a joke. It is still a linear game. I thing they got a 2nd opinion review at (
www.gamesdomain.com) that totally nails Deus Ex, it could as well be written by me.
The RPG elements aren´t very well done either. They are much better in SS 2 for example, there they really count for anything.
I ain´t saying that everyone that likes Deux Ex are trolls, just that I kind understand why anyone would think Deus Ex is good.
Now go flame me all you want, I can take it there is just something about this game that pisses me off, which normally don´t happen for me, I mean it´s only a game.

Apparently oqvist, you have what I like to refer to as "Shitty Computer Syndrome" The reviewer from gamesdomain shares this problem... I saw his screenshots and his gamma must have been set to +10 at least. These performance issues can SEVERELY hamper the game experience. So i have a suggestion, before complaining about the quality of DX or any game for that matter, play it on something higher than a 486, and a 12" monitor. I can assure you it will be a much more enjoyable experience. And if you still don't think so, well try DX2 i'm sure it will be better. :thumb:

Do you think an athlon 1600+ at 1670 Mhz and 159 fsb, 512 mb ddr RAM, Geforce 3 ti-500 would be enough :p Believe me it isn´t the video performance that makes me hate this game it´s very much everything else

According to (
http://www.gamesdomain.com/gdreview/zones/reviews/pc/jun00/deusex.html) that "Enemies whose weapons vanish when I kill them." This is not a bug nor plot design. This is because either your enemy's weapon is integrated (in the case of MJ12 commandos) or you have the same type of weapon already! Moreover, he said "Unfortunately, stealth and electronic subterfuge are little more than a tease, since Deus Ex constantly forces you into gunplay." Numerous DX players, including PowerCrazy, proved that a player can finish the game w/o killing a single person. And I feel that site is more console-oriented IMHO.:p

I think gamesdomain.com had a 90+ % review like everyone else . And about finishing the game without killing anyone, how hard can it be with that stupid AI? And all enemys don´t have integrated weapons or do they have a self destruct function built in
The reason that I got so disappointed was that I really believed in all the hype of the game about how good it was and that it was a bit like system shock 2.

oqvist,
My post was mostly directed at the reviewer for Gamesdomain.com. I saw his screenshots and with his complaining about polygon counts i felt sure that he was playing DX on a 486 sx/33. So your problems with the game were AI, "the Hype," and linearity?
I'll agree with the AI, it wasn't that good at all BUT playing it on Realistic helps quite a bit. I liked to play where i wouldn't even get detected that way the AI doesn't even come into play.
The linearity will be there forever, SS2 had a linear plot-line more so than DX. What was great about DX was decisions within the level (should i go through the sewers are battle it out on the streets?) DX was the first game that had such obvious and unique path differences. THe three endings were more of a novelty than anything. But hey did ss2 have three endings?
"The Hype" is pretty subjective, I'd barely even heard of the game but i bought it because Warren Spector is GOD, and i wasn't dissapointed. Plus even if DX is the "worst game ever" if it spawns DX2 as "the best game ever" its worth it.
