Loading... and nothing happens. - by Uxtalzon

Hey everyone!
I'm a huge Thief junkie. For years I played T1 and T2 until I knew maps like the back of my hand, and only recently got a new computer that can play Thief 3.
Now that I polished that game, I wanted to make maps as I had for the other Thief games. They worked without a hitch, but this one is driving me up the wall (without any climbing gloves)!
First time installing thief editor, I didn't know a tutorial was needed. Needless to say, epic fail.
Second time, I followed Komag's tutorial and missed a part by mistake. Fail.
Third time's the charm, got the editor running. :D
My ecstatic behavior quickly dimmed as I tried loading a map and clicked the joystick to play. It acts like as if it's loading, but... nothing happens. I manually searched this forum and found one thread that had the same problem as I did, but the link given for advice doesn't exist anymore. (404 error)
I have a Dell 3000 system, but at a glance:
Windows XP
4 ghz dual processor
2 gig RAM
Radeon x1550 video (I hear that's a problem with playing maps)
I've tried setting affinity to one processor, restored the extra files from the maps folder (disk space isn't an issue), and read far back. Being the fool who loves stealth games, I continued with the tutorial and learned enough to make a little funhouse to explore, if I ever get the darn thing to work. The regular game plays without a hitch, the editor just won't play the maps.
Any advice on what to try? I'm stuck with this Radeon card, it's the best I can get for my stupid PCI-only computer.

If the normal game works, then this should work too.
Try to erase your user.ini file, and substitute with this one:
user.iniQuote:
[Locale]
Language=English
[BlockLoading]
;LoadFromResourceBlockFiles=True
[Source Control]
UseSourceSafe=0
[Engine.Engine]
UpdateGameSys=0
[Conversations]
SchemaChangesAllowed=True
[PCVertexPools]
DynamicVertexPool0=7077888
StaticVertexPool=5242880
StaticShadowVertexPool=5505024
and tell me if this works...

I have the same problem once a month. In my case it's Windows who should be blamed for all. Windows Firewall (I have it called Brandmauer) forbids to run the game so I have to add all exe-files from T3Editor's forlder to The Exceptions List. I hope this should help you too.

Well, the first method by massimilianogoi didn't work, neither did Tiens'...
The method by ShadowSneaker gave a DOS prompt: 'xreboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. It tells me to press any key to continue, which closes it. It flashes a stream of text before closing.
I've got most of the day off tomorrow, so I'm going to start over and reinstall everything slowly and methodically. I appreciate the helpful advice, but it's still not working as of yet. I find it a bit ironic that a stealth game plays... stealth games on you! :P

'xreboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.This means you haven't created the .bat file wrote in the Komag tutorial.
Read about it.

Seems that I missed that... thanks for pointing it out. :D
Going to fiddle with Komag's tutorial again!

Ok, small update...
The xbreboot.bat thing didn't work because the tutorial didn't specify how to actually turn it into a .bat file. Had to rename it as "xbreboot.bat" with the quotes to make it change. That said...
Heart attack, it started. It got to a loading screen where it flashes something about missing some file (quotes?). Then it immediately crashed, giving me that "send error to Microsoft just to make you feel like we're doing something about it" message. The error detail says t3mainreleaseversion.exe for whatever reason.
Going to look further into the forums since I got further. :D Merry Christmas everyone!
