A single man with offspring will always grab female attention. They think it's cute but secretly they don't believe a man can manage kids without their help. So beware, they're only waiting for you to slip and feed your kid dirt or something.
Generally because of this small animals are too be preferred. They are just as attention grabbing + they leave room for imagination on the man's background that doesn't involve a loving wife.
The pet doesn't have to be nice or anything, almost any animal will do, as long as it's sufficiently small and harmless looking. So you can safely take your siamese cat to the park. Cats don't like to be taken out on a leash but that's beside the point.
