My latest quest is to get a complete set of Master Alchemy equipment. Yay! I finally got the mortar and pestle. So on my way back from Fort Black Boot I come across this two story house out in the middle of nowhere. Just sitting on a hillside with nothing around it. It wasn't on the map and I didn't get a "You have found ..." message when I got close to it. I checked the strategy guide and it wasn't on the map in there either. ???
The door says simply "Abandoned House" so I go in and find a couple of bandits squatting there. I take them out, loot the place, figure this is a good place to get some shuteye (I hate to travel at night) so catch a couple of hours of sleep. I wake up at 6 AM and activate the front door to go outside. The sky is blood red, there are Daedra skulking around and I hear the whine of an Oblivion gate somewhere close. OK, this has happened to me before. Sometimes they do tend to pop up like that when exiting a cave or dungeon or something, and it's actually very cool when that happens.
But when I turn around the house is in ruins, nothing but broken walls and charred timbers and the Oblivion gate is sitting right there in the middle of the rubble. Very weird that it all happened in the instant I was passing through the door. It would have been cool if something began to happen while I was inside.

It'll be that kind of thing, but it just shows that the Countess' journey isn't scripted as fully as it would seem. She definitely didn't just get there normally, as she had a white horse and I had a stolen black, plus you never see her horse gallop, it's always walking afaik.
This is a failsafe to prevent quests breaking. If you need someone to follow you for the quest, and go far ahead of them, they will appear outside the next building you exit.

Is my game deciding what is happening to these people all over the world? Are they fighting monsters in far-off corners of the globe? What if I hadn't found Mothril? Do NPCs just randomly dissapear, wandering in the woods when you're not around, and you never know? Are they only activated when your in the area - and if so, why did I never see Mothril die?
The game seems to take some interesting turns in how NPCs travel. After the quest with Baurus to meet the Mythic Dawn guys he said he was going to go back to Cloudchaser Temple (or whatever it's called), and started walking away. So I followed him, figuring he'd dissappear as soon as we got out of the sewer (like Lucien did after turning chameleon in my Inn room, so I followed his veiled form but he vanished entirely as soon as he exited the Inn.) I followed him all the way to the outside of the city. Here I thought "cool, he's gonna walk his ass all the way up to the Temple." Having nothing else to do in the following half hour, I followed him.
Well he walked his ass for a good 5 or 6 minutes all the way to the first Will'o'wisp he found and hacked uselessly at it with his Katana until he died. Unhappy by this turn of events (and stupidly having not saved in a while, assuming he'd stay on the road an not get attacked, or that between the two of us, we could handle it) I reloaded and quick traveled to the Temple. Baurus was chillin' out like he'd been there the whole time, lookin' at me like "what took you so long, don't you have a world to save?"
I think I'm going to use the CS to make Akavari weapons ignore resistance.

Also interesting is that if you kill the countess when she's on one of her trips, she stays dead - but kill her in the palace and she goes unconcious. :weird:

So I had just finished the Thieves Guild today and was playing around with the reward at the end. This is all one big thieves guild spoiler but I accidently forgot to remove the Cowl. Immediately hoardes of guards in the Imperial City gave chase (after an amusing, "Stop right there! Wait... you're... you're the Grey Fox! You're under arrest for... a whole lot of stuff!"). Immediately I legged it, ran past three startled guards, plowed through the Talos Plaza--whereupon the guards opened fire and, while hitting quite a few doors, did not hit me--rocketed through the gate, jumped a paddock, and then leapt upon the first available horse. Within seconds I was gone, over the fence, down a hill, and away.
The cool part? Two days later I'm walking around the Prison District. The Captain of the Guard begins talking to another guard. "Any news?" he asks. The guard replies, "Yes! The Grey Fox has been spotted! The guards gave chase, but he got away." Very, very cool indeed.
