The difference is maybe in Finland the education system actually cares about finding you a job while in the US they care about making money off of you. But free market and all, allocates resources efficiently etc. Still, as long as people are wishing of the dream of "game programming", the game programming schools in the US will keep popping up.

Oi, I live near digipen, and it's really really hard to get into, in addition to other stuff. You need to submit a portfolio thing with some sort of game modification or something, not quite sure exactly.
However, I'm a Computer Science major at the University of Washington, and in addition to being much cheaper, I think you could probably still land an internship afterwards to get started...
I really don't know an incredible amount about the programming jobs out there yet though.
