All is lost then? There's no way we could change this limit?
I'm sure that between clever level design, and joining of static meshes, people will be able to push T3Ed a little further. It's just going to take a little more work than anticipated. :(

Like everything else around here.

- on a side note, how big can Doom 3 maps be? Can we make Dark Mod levels that are freakin' huge, limited only by our PCs capabilities, or are the limits there something like the average Doom 3 OM map size (which seems to be a bit bigger than Thief 3 OMs, but I'm not sure)

The more detailed (it usually means: "the more beautiful") the level is, the smaller it has to be. It's not fair! :nono: Why on Earth was such limit hardcoded in the first place?

You will be able to make some pretty big doom 3 maps....as big as those in T1 and 2...and later FM's. Initially, there will be limits due to the FM makers hardware, but this will pass with time and when Dark Mod is released...probably in another 1 1/2 to 2 years, the average machine will likely be able to handle anything we could throw at it. Dark Mod does push more things around in the background than vanilla doom 3, (AI, Sound Prop, Light Gem, Stim/ Response) but there really aren't any really horrible limits. Add to that, the source code for doom 3 will eventually be released...and you have yourself a wide open playing field.

Probably not in the next two years... ;)

Hard to say. :) Carmack said that the doom 3 source code will likley be released 1 year after their next game. I would wager that we'll see it no later than a year or two after Dark Mod is released.

Doom 3 does have a 4096-entity limit, but we THINK that can be altered by recompiling the SDK. Also you are unlikely to find this a restriction in practice, since you can "inline" static meshes to prevent them from taking up an entity slot, plus you are probably going to hit memory/performance limits before you reach the internal entity limit anyway.

Nomad, could you check how many actors you have in "Evicted" map?
