So, I've got a fairly decent machine. Not dual-core, or anything like that, but it runs S.T.A.L.K.E.R at ~30 FPS with 2x AA, 1024x768, max texture quality, dynamic lightning, and all that jazz.
Then, I get into a thunderstorm, and every time the lightning flashes, my FPS drops down to 2. Considering the rate of a flash every 3 seconds, the game becomes unplayable, very quickly.
Is there anything that can be done? I don't want to disable dynamic lighting in it's entirety.

Thanks - helped a tonn. I still got some very strange lag in the area right north of the 100 RAD bar, but that's about it.

Personally I love the big storms + lightning flashes. Even if they do reduce my FPS to 5 fps. Hopefully something they`ll fix in later patches.
They`ve fixed all the MUST FIX stuff by the point of the 2nd patch, so now its onto all the stuff we`d like to see done.

I don't get any framerate losses during the thunderstorms. Maybe the best patch to fix that, is to upgrade? ;)

just a quick reminder: AA and AF do not work in STALKER, check out the (
http://www.tweakguides.com/STALKER_1.html) tweakguide for stalker where you can see that you don't have to enable those effects in the options menue, they just don't work.

It would work much better to enable them in the video driver settings, in other words?

On anistrophic filtering:
Quote:
However it appears the AF slider doesn't have any significant noticeable impact on the image quality in the game, even when set to the far right. It appears this feature may be broken in STALKER. You can however use the r1_tf_mipbias or r2_tf_mipbias variable (depending on which renderer you're using) to increase texture clarity
On anti-aliasing:
Quote:
However STALKER's game engine uses a form of rendering called Deferred Shading. This effectively means it cannot support proper Antialiasing which would remove all the jagged outlines in the game world, regardless of which type of graphics card you have. Thus the Antialiasing slider has no real impact on performance or image quality,
and also cannot be forced on using the graphics card control panel. You can instead use the r2_aa command, and related commands, to enable and customize a fake form of blurred AA
:/

I find it rather odd why it doesn't support these two well-known settings. Especially anisotropic filtering.

They work at least in static lighting mode and at least on R9800Pro. Don't know about dynamic lighting because I can't enable it with my card.
