ON NO PLZ SHARE YOUR GREAT GIFT WITH US WE'LL DO ANYTHING!

Really though. You shouldn't make claims like that in here only to take it all back with...it doesn't hold merrit or I don't have time. Gah.

(don't like ranting/flaming, but that kind of outright attack/arrogance is hard to stay quiet after)
Vile_T3:
The editor is something worthy. It's just not how we would have liked it.
And I've done programming too, and have seen lots of people doing it badly because that way they could get it to work because the 'right', 'proper' or 'neat' versions bizarrely didn't, or were far too big/time consuming to do.
Ion folded, I consider that a bad thing, having liked Anachronox, Deus Ex, Deus Ex: The Conspiracy (the PS2 version of DX, subtly different), and having enjoyed yet also been kind of disappointed by Invisible War and Deadly Shadows.
You say you could fix it but there's no reward? Take a look around at all these guys who campaigned to get any editor at all released to the community. If people's gratitude isn't enough reward for you, don't make the claims you could do it, if you had the patience, cause you're right - the industry doesn't care. WE might, and to make such a bold but now empty claim...
I was just another name on a petition at the time, but I still feel insulted.
Everyone else:
I've got that light problem too, best I've found is to put bright lights on both sides, though maybe some creative brush work might help: like subtract higher than you need, but big enough to create the full shadow, and add planes (not full blocks) to make the ceiling or whatever, so the base wall has it's full height.

First off don't be ashamed to flame me directly instead of hiding behind the spoiler tag.
More time was wasted correcting fumbled code, if done properly form the beginning the game/editor performance wouldn’t suffer so!… what’s done, is done!!
Yes, I could fix it, but then what use is it to me alone... I can't offer my re-vamped version for download due to copyright violations.
Yes and I signed the petition, not just once but many times... I also photocopied and mailed countless number of letter requesting the editor.
The reason I'm so harsh toward the DS effort is it could have been SO much better with very little effort on their part if approached properly... the end users got the shitty end of the stick from the get go... with all the efforts campaigning for the editor and they literally hand over a buggy, hacked & pasted, bugger up rendition of what they considered to be good enough!!... and you feel insulted by my comments... bollocks to em'.

Well, if you care to share how it could be fixed...then perhaps we could all take responsibility for fixing it up. I doubt it would cause too much of a stir though...I don't think the community is much of a threat.

It's all rather theoretical without access to the source code.
Renzatic on 24/4/2005 at 08:01
Theoretically? No, it's impossible to fix without the sourcecode period.
Alot of gameplay problems can be fixed via the scripting engine and whatnot, but T3Ed is always gonna be the same...quirks and all.
Not that that's a bad thing per se. It's a little buggy, true...but from what I've heard Dromed was about 10 times worse and alot less user friendly to boot. And yet people still managed to get used to it.

Well this would be true, but from the way the code was written and considering the history of IS with past releases demonstrates the lack of experience or the understanding (incompetence) not to mention the fact that IS in the dust bin, seem to solidify my opinion
I am curious, exactly
where have you seen the source code for TDS?

Unless you like editing compiler-generated assembly code by hand. :D (Believe me, it's not fun!)
Vile_T3 - Editors for games are always buggy. It's, like, traditional. ;)
Besides, we should be happy that we got it at all! Okay, the cake doesn't have a cherry on top, but at least we got the cake, right?
And I'm sorry to be harsh, but I really don't like your derogatory comments about the Ion Storm developers. Ever tried programming a game? I mean an actual commercial-quality game with a large team to manage, multiple platforms to develop for, and using a complicated game engine that wasn't originally yours and that you had to pull apart and half-rewrite (including the incredibly complex renderer) so that it worked for your game? Nope? Didn't think so.
I write (mostly 2D) games as a hobby, and it's hard enough without dealing with the third dimension, having advanced technology to work with, and having to coordinate your efforts with an army of artists and designers. I respect anyone who manages to get a game out of the door under those conditions, particularly one as good as TDS. (Or any of the Thief games, for that matter.)
... Okay, I'm done. :)
SneaksieDave on 24/4/2005 at 16:49
Yep, that's the modus operandi. Criticize, but never help. Some are destruction rather than constructive, that's all.
Anyway: the fix for this issue is to adjust the Lighting->ShadowExtrusionDistance. The light is casting beyond the shadow distance, that's all - so correct it by adjusting that property (increase it slowly, don't go too far, or you'll cause a performance drag). I've found for a 90 radius light, extrusion distance of about 350-400 is about right, as a point of reference.
