i think its life of the party by the way, it has been awhile since i played thief 2, tis the one where you go across the rooftops.
ive done a search too and don't seem to be able to find it.

Currently, I don't believe there are any plans to attempt recreating any classic levels. The main reason, is that the TDS engine can't handle the huge size of the classic Thief levels. You would also have to redesign any levels that had water as the TDS engine doesn't have swimmable water.
What you speak of was something people had dreamed of doing when the editor was first released, but since then we have discovered the limitations of the engine.
Long story short, you can't create a level like Life of the Party in TDS without splitting it into probably 2 to 4 separate maps. I think we would be lucky to get Lord Baffords into a single map.

I'm assuming that The Dark Mod would allow a classic Thief level to be recreated? Can the Doom 3 engine handle levels that large?

We don't endorse it, for legal reasons...but I'm sure someone could build a level 'inspired' by Life of the Party.

Absolutely, if properly built and optimized.

Ah, glorious T3Ed disinformation, my personal bugbear. Baffords could easily be built in T3Ed with the exception of the swimming in the sewers. LotP couldn't because the extended vistas would kill framerate.

yes that reminded me, i remeber them discussing the problems they were faced with the biggest being splitting the maps up into alot of sections, then theres the fog one of the guys who started it but never finished had some screen shots up from the bell tower and the fog made it so u couldnt see very far in front :/ dunno if that could be removed or not, tis a shame, but as New Horizon said it, an 'inspired' level of life of the party would be nice ;),
i'd have a crack at mapping but i wouldn't know where to start, all i know is how to play em, and i work alot so i don't have the time plus somthing on this scale would be along long time off for a beginner :/
but i am curious if theres any fms where you get to traverse the thieves high way like in life of the party?

Technically - definitely. You can get as large as you want, as long as you properly optimize your map.

If that's the case, then why so many load zones in Doom 3?

Because then only 'hardcore power users' would ever be able to play the game. Take note that Sparhawk said..
. If your system can support it, you can pretty much build a huge level...but it would have to be optimized and even then, there is no guarantee that it won't choke a system that is lower end than the person making it. Like any game, Doom 3 had to be built for the mid-range systems of the time.

The reason why TDS levels were cut up was the xbox memory limit. No such limit exists on the PC. Of course, there are still performance limitations, and obviously the Doom3 engine is more optimized than Flesh, but this won't impede the overall size of the map ...

So this statement is equally true of TDS, or any engine come to think of it.
In short, a level like Life of the Party would certainly be a challenge in Flesh, but I belive it could be done (and without the need for loading zones).
