After completing the last few FM's for SS2 I decided to go back and play more SS1.
Is it just me or is Level 3 a complete and utter bastard? Maybe im just rubbish at it but it really aint easy in anyway. Got the Magnum (hurrah) but them invisible mutants really are giving me a tough time!

Well, you're not supposed to stay there for long on your first visit. Unless you really like it, and prefer to hang around instead of running towards the elevator. Usually that's what I do, because I like to clear the levels in the correct order.
And in the Maintenance level you find something far more important than the Magnum (which you should already have, since you can get a Magnum in Medical) ;)

Level 3 is orders of magnitude harder than the other levels of the game and it doesn't get much better later on, even with a nice kit of weapons. It's definitely meant to be a level you dread rather than a level you own.
As D'Arcy said though, it's worth having a poke around for one item in particular. Just make sure you turn on the regen chamber before spending any quality time there (which will require knocking out the nodes first to break the security lock, IIRC...)

Two words. . . "laser rapier."

...musta missed the Magnum in medical, and havent found the laser rapier yet. Doh! I is a n00b

You can only get the Magnum in Medical after you get security down to 0%.
This thread is getting far too many spoilers, so I'm moving it to the right place.

Now, I dont really want to seem like a complete moron here but is there a bonafide way you can tell if you have completed a deck / level and its okay to go exploring another?
Cheers...

Some levels require that you return to them later as you can only access parts of them by doing things on other levels. Also, since enemies respawn, you can't clear levels and call them 'safe'.
Short answer: No.

Everybody would look like a "noob" or moron next to d'Arcy here. He has one problem, though: he can't go exploring decks - he knows them by heart :P
About deck 3: I was never comfortable, tried the rapier and wasn't happy at all. But after a couple of years, I took it up again and ho! the laser rapier is such a nice toy, it is THE way of living on deck 3. It is overpowered to a similar extent as deck 3 is too hard. :thumb:

Man, I remember my first time on Deck 3. I kept getting nailed stepping off the elevator by the damn invisio-mutants.
Now it's one of my favorites.
