Don't forget that satisfying chunk sound when you insert a floppy disk :)

How about the dreaded 'rrrr zt-zt-zt-zt' when the drive reader hit a bad sector, most probably caused by the time you thumbed the flap open to verify if the disc was clean and didn't have bits of gravel or an eyelash stuck in it, only to then get a bit of gravel or an eyelash stuck in it?

I would say that physical copies of games, with their big boxes and shiny booklets, obviously have an aesthetic quality to them that 1s and 0s on your PC don't.
Let's face it, though, the really nice ones were few and far between. There's a special place for my
Ultima boxes, including some that I got on eBay years after they came out (but luckily before they became unpayable). At the same time, I'd gladly swap all the games I bought in boring DVD cases for digital copies.

I threw out all my game packaging except the Thief Gold and Thief II trapezoids. The rest of my discs are in an unsexy binder that I practically never open.

An unsexy binder sounds like a good idea. I should do that.
