Wicked, wicked sense of humor. I love it. If I wasn't already married, I'd ask you for a date!
I'm also taken already, but I'm honored!

Well, judging from the latest news about EM & their rapid employee turnover rate as well as other problems that seem to be besieging them, I think I'll just zip up my old jumpsuit and go home. Call me if they ever open that garage door, Weasel.
;)

Yeah, count me in too! I love cars almost as much as I love Thief, scotch, cigars & football.

I don't think the relationship analogy is a good one at all...
Then you missed the point of it. The goal was not to make a perfect analogy, but to explain how a certain portion of the fans felt about the issue (of the placeholder). For the fans, the game is not just another product. They have fond idealized memories of it and they have invested themselves into it to some degree. They can distance themselves from it, but it's not just an easy matter of walking away.

And walking away from it requires something enticing, not boring or superficial or incompatible.

Yes:
- Play Thief 1 and 2. Make games with THAT kind of atmosphere and feel and style.
- Must have horror elements in it.
- MUST use sound as a major gameplay element, different textures, sounds, how badguys hear you/don't hear you, MOSS ARROWS!
- An expansive sprawling story that you get sucked into. The simple task exploding into a major story.
NO:
- Don't make this a combat or acrobatics game (especially don't remake Assassin's Creed)
- Don't make this a modern or anime world.
- Do not change garrett from thief 1/2. If you think you have to, then make a new character that isn't garrett.
- Don't use ragdoll physics again

Well said, Starker. And jtr, and Fenris. My sentiments exactly.
