It was a placeholder logo. By its very definition it's meant to be changed.
...yet is sat unchanged for what...3 years? lol
Popping the original Thief logo up would have been just fine for a placeholder. Better than Thi4f anyway.

And it wasn't called a placeholder right away, so no one knew if they were actually going to use it or not for a while there (couple of years I believe). Only after a lot of negative response, did they call it a placeholder. You can bet yer butt if response was minimal, they likely would have used it for the final product - they bought thief4.com, didn't they?
Actually just tried it out, and they also own thi4f.com (redirects to the new site now). I seriously doubt they originally meant it to be a placeholder.

We were told by Rene it was a placeholder/working title when the forum launched in 2009, afaik.

Yep...Yet, with a (

Note: That poll was for the
THI4F Logo.

Indeed. There is little point changing a placeholder for another placeholder. :cheeky:

Four years of the THI4f logo, with a thi4f.com site, clearly indicates it wasn't intended as a placeholder to begin with...Most likely, it was planned for use with the first iteration of the game.

We WERE told it was a placeholder to begin with.
The dot.coms were also mentioned at the same time but can't remember if there was a particular reason given, I just assumed its normal practice for companies to take ownership of dot.coms that can be associated with their IP in some form or another.

Well then, you were mislead...How does that make you feel?
thiefessa on 25/4/2013 at 19:34
Rene tells us not to worry, the game isn't called Thi4f, its just a working title for now.
In what way was anyone mislead?

Poor Rene...I'm sure if he was with us right now, he'd feel as slighted as the rest of us.
